ALBERT RIVARD - Lincoln 01:00 AM EST on Tuesday, November 16, 2004 ALBERT RIVARD, 92, formerly of Providence Pike, North Smithfield, an Edward Parkinson Mfg. Co. retiree, and a former variety store owner, died Friday at The Holiday Retirement Home. He was the husband of Diana (Metivier) Rivard; they had been married for 73 years. Born in Quebec, Canada, on Dec. 10, 1911, a son of the late Vital and Marie (Charrette) Rivard, he had lived in North Smithfield for more than 50 years before moving to Lincoln. He had built his home in North Smithfield. Mr. Rivard and his wife had owned and operated the former Rivard's Variety Store, in North Smithfield, for 14 years. He had worked at Edward Parkinson Mfg. Co. for 25 years, until retiring in 1979. He was a member of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers of Rhode Island, Lodge 47. He was an honorary fire chief and former volunteer with the former Primrose Fire Station, which he had helped to build. Mr. Rivard was a communicant of St. John Church, in North Smithfield, and a member of the North Smithfield Senior Citizens Center. He enjoyed fishing, playing cribbage and the harmonica. Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter, Gertrude Lancelotti of Lincoln; a brother, Conrad Rivard in Florida; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was the father of the late Albert E. Rivard, and a brother of the late Raymond Rivard, Ozlina Desmarais and Lillian Bergeron. The funeral service and burial were private.
