His long journey with Alzheimer's has ended and he now joins his wife Anna, who preceded him in death in 1981, and since that time he has long waited to be with her. John was born in New Bedford, Mass., on Dec. 17, 1911, the son of the late Levi and Celina (Gauthier) Bonvouloir. As a young man he lived in Shelburne. In 1939 he married Anna Christian and three years later they moved to Orwell where he and Anna owned and operated a farm. It is here that they raised their family. In addition to being a successful farmer, John was proud to serve the town of Orwell as a selectman for 30 years. He was known for his skill as a dowser and he attended the annual Dowser Convention. John was a member of United Farmers, Yankee Milk, and the Extension Service Board, and was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church in Orwell. After retiring, he sold seeds for Seedway. In recent years, John will be remembered for bringing smiles to Birchwood residents with his singing. John leaves his daughter, Lucille Bonvouloir, a Sister of Mercy, Burlington; and a son, Roger and his wife Phyllis, Orwell; three grandchildren, Rebecca and her two children, Caleb and Rachael, Monkton; Peter and his wife Cynthia and their three children, Cody, Noah and Hannah, Orwell; and Sandra of Fairfax. He also leaves his sister, Caroline Bonvouloir currently of Burlington; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition, he leaves Eugene Giroux, Hinesburg, who became a part of John and Anna's family at a young age. In addition to his wife Anna, he was predeceased by his parents, Levi and Celina (Gauthier) Bonvouloir; sisters Dorilla Ostiguy, Florida Audette, Antoinette Goodrich, Marie Louise Guillemette; and brothers, Romeo, Orien, Anthony; and seven siblings who died very early in their lives. John's family is grateful for the dedicated and loving care given him by the Special Care staff of Birchwood Terrace Health Care, Burlington, and the staff at the Pillars, Shelburne. Visiting hours will be Friday, Nov. 12, 2 to 4 p.m. in the Mallory Funeral Home in Fair Haven. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, Nov. 13, 9:30 a.m. in St. Paul Catholic Church, Orwell. Burial will follow in St. Genevieve Cemetery in Shoreham.
