Armand O. "Peenie" Allard November 14, 1927 - November 20, 2004 PLAINFIELD- Armand O. "Peenie" Allard, 77, of 14 Windsor Ave. (East Wind Village) died Saturday morning at Village Manor Health Care in Plainfield. He was born November 14, 1927 in Plainfield, a son of the late Ernest and Marieange (Bouley) Allard. Mr. Allard joined the Navy December 26, 1945, serving over 23 years and retiring as a Chief Petty Officer. He served at the end of World War II, In Korea and in Vietnam. Mr. Allard served on the USS Yosemite Destroyer Tender, the Carrier USS Oriskany, Guided Missile Ship USS Nortan Sound, Patrol Escort USS Amherst, Destroyer USS Glennon, Sub Tender USS Chandelier, Ammunition Ship USS Monalaua, Attack Cargo Ship USS Union in Vietnam, Special Operations from 19651967 in Vietnam transporting Marines and ammunitions; ending on the USS Yosemite in 1968. During his Naval Service career he was awarded the Good Conduct Medal (Fourth Award), World War II Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal, China Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal (Second Award). Mr. Allard was a continuous member since 1948 of the William L. Mercier V.F.W. Post 5446, Plainfield and the Retired Enlisted Association. He was a communicant of St. John the Apostle Church. After retirement, Mr. Allard did plumbing locally until he lost his sight. He continued to live on his own and would be seen around Plainfield walking to his favorite coffee shops. He will be remembered for his honesty, integrity, generosity and willingness to help others. He leaves a brother and sisterinlaw, Arthur and Rachel Allard of Moosup. Two sisters and brothersinlaw, Arlene and Tex Dettmann and Jeannette and Leo Gaudreau all of Vero Beach, FL. He also leaves many nieces and nephews. The Funeral will be held Tuesday at 9:15 a.m. from Dougherty Bros. Funeral Home 595 Norwich Rd. Plainfield followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. John the Apostle Church. Burial with Military Honors will follow in St. John Cemetery.
