Normand L. Martel Normand L. Martel 1931 - 2004 HOLYOKE - Normand Leo Martel, age 73, of Holyoke,died peacefully on Wednesday November 17,2004 at the Holyoke Soldiers Home. A lifelong resident of Holyoke, he was a son of the late Leo and Laurea (Labarr) Martel and was educated at Immaculate Conception School, Holyoke Trade School, and Western New England College. Normand was a United States Army veteran of the Korean War, and held the position of a Quality Control Engineer at Avery Dennison Corp. until his retirement in 1990. At Dennison, he was a Past President of its Office Union, and had served as a License Commissioner for the City of Holyoke. Normand was a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church, and a member of the Holyoke Golden Agers. He was fascinated with the art of stained glass, and enjoyed vacationing on Cape Cod with his wife Joan. He leaves his wife of 50 years, Joan R. (Chevalier) Martel; his children, Charles Martel and his wife Kathleen of Holyoke, Marlene Martel of Holyoke, Lisa Martel of Westerly R.I., and Maureen Williams and her husband Douglas of Belchertown; five grandchildren, Jamie Judge of Holyoke, Joshua Brennan, Ryan Brennan, Elaura Brennan, and Douglas B. Williams all of Belchertown. Normand was predeceased by a daughter, Sharon B. Judge, in 1996; and a sister, Therese Szetela, in January of 2004. The funeral will be held Monday morning at 9 a.m. from the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton St., followed by a Mass in Holy Cross Church at 10 a.m. Burial will be in St. Jerome Cemetery.
