    3. 11/09/2004CLAIRE J. BURKE WINOOSKI - Claire J. Burke, 87, a longtime resident of Winooski died peacefully at her home Sunday, Nov. 7, 2004. Claire was born in Bristol, Conn., May 5, 1917, the daughter of the late Roch and Beatrice (Corriveau) Provost. She was a graduate of Winooski High School, Class of 1936. She was married in Winooski, on May 2, 1943, to George T. Burke, who predeceased her on March 13, 1970. Claire served the City of Winooski in the clerk's office for nearly a half century, retiring as City Clerk in 1982. She was a member of the Winooski Senior Citizens, and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, and enjoyed knitting and playing cards with friends and family. Claire is survived by two children, Patrick Burke of Burlington, and Kathleen Glasserman and husband John of Essex Junction; a sister, Pauline Cartier and husband Alphonse of Clearwater, Fla.; a special niece, Anne Cartier of Colchester, and her three children who were like grandchildren to Claire, Barbara Burgess, David Hubbard, and Sarah Hubbard. Claire is also survived by her in-laws, Dr. Avery and Agnes King, Kenneth and Rita Smith, Alice and Lester McLure, and Eleanor Fox; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by two brothers, Maurice and Edmund Provost; and by two brothers-in-law, John and Harold Burke. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, Nov. 11, at 11 a.m. in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Winooski. Interment will follow at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Francis Xavier Church Renovation Fund, 3 St. Peter Street, Winooski, Vt. 05404; or the charity of one's choice. Visiting hours will be Wednesday, Nov. 10, from 3 to 7 p.m. in the LaVigne Funeral Home, 132 Main St., Winooski.
