    3. LAPOINTE, Ovila Joseph, o.m.i. (1911-1997) - 1940 (-) (11/25/97) Edmonton Journal LaPOINTE, Reverend Ovila Joseph, O.M.I. Father Ovila Lapointe, OMI, passed away on Saturday, November 22nd, 1997 at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Edmonton, Alberta. He was born on August 6th, 1911 in St. Barnabe Sud, Quebec, in a family of 17 children. He is survived by one sister, Adrienne Gelineau of Quebec and numerous nephews and nieces. Education in St. Hyacinthe, Quebec, he made final profession as an Oblate in Ville La Salle in September, 1939. It was on June 23rd, 1940 that he was ordained to the priesthood. He received his first obedience for Coppermine in 1941 where he served for over 50 years in the Mackenzie Diocese. He retired in Yellowknife in 1992 and moved to Placid Place in Edmonton in March, 1996. Father Lapointe will be greatly missed by his family, his confreres and the people of the North. The Missionary Oblates express their gratitude for your prayers. Reverend Gilles Mousseau, OMI will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joachim Catholic Church, 9924-110th Street on Tuesday, November 25th, 1997 at 7:00 p.m. A Prayer Service will take place Wednesday, November 26th, 1997 at 10:00 a.m. at the St. Albert Funeral Home followed by burial in the Oblate Priests Plot in the St. Albert Catholic Cemetery.
