John L. Guenette FITCHBURG -- John L. Guenette, 55, of Fitchburg, died Thursday, Nov. 18, at UMass Memorial Center in Worcester after an illness. He was born in Fitchburg on Nov. 20, 1948, the son of Rose R. (Provencher) Guenette and the late J. Andre Guenette Sr. of Fitchburg and had resided in Fitchburg his entire life. He was a 1966 graduate of St. Bernard's Central Catholic High School. He was also a graduate of St. Joseph's College in Stuart, Fla., where he was president of his class. While at St. Bernard's High School he was a standout in track. Mr. Guenette was a self-employed carpenter in the Fitchburg area for many years. He was a former Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 99 in Fitchburg. He was involved with the former Brain Injured Center in Fitchburg. He was also an avid sportsman. Mr. Guenette is survived by his mother of Fitchburg; one son, John L. Guenette II of Fitchburg; three brothers and two sisters-in-laws, the Rev. J. Andre Guenette of Bonita Springs, Fla., Peter J. Guenette and Beth Guenette of Fitchburg, and James P. Guenette and Karen Guenette of Leominster; one sister and brother-in-law, Anne Louise Stephens and Bernard Stephens of Fitchburg; one grandchild, Jonathon Guenette; his wife, Sharon Guenette; and several nieces and nephews. "Freeman" Gagne, 78, of Hallowell Road died Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2004, at St. Marguerite d'Youville Pavilion in Lewiston. He was born in Augusta on March 4, 1926, the son of Lee and Mamie (Poulin) Gagne. He served on cruisers with the Navy during World War II and the Korean War, and was discharged in 1953. He had worked for almost 37 years at the Gardiner paper mill, retiring in 1990. Freeman loved to hunt and fish and was a former member of Le Club Calumet and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was devoted to his Catholic faith and attended St. Leo's Catholic Church in Litchfield. Joseph Percy Beaulieu, 84 PORTLAND - Joseph Percy Beaulieu, 84, of Scarborough, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2004. Mr. Beaulieu was born in Van Buren, Maine on Sept. 22, 1920, the son of Felix Laurent Beaulieu and Agnes Marie Madore. He attended local schools and graduated in 1938 from Van Buren Boy's High School, with Honors. Mr. Beaulieu served two years in the Civilian Conservation Corp ('CCCs') after which he worked at the South Portland shipyard building Liberty ships until his induction in the U.S. Air Force in January, 1942. He was assigned to the Fifth Air Force in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre stationed at various military installations in New Guinea, the Philippines, Okinawa and eventually Japan. Mr. Beaulieu was discharged with honors from military service on March, 1945. He enrolled in the Engineering Division of the University of Maine, subsequently transferring to Hilyer College in Hartford, Connecticut attending college and working at Pratt & Whitney supporting his family. Upon returning to Maine in 1952 he worked for various engineering firms in the construction of the Maine Turnpike and the Portland International Airport. He subsequently went to work for the City of Portland, Maine as a leader and designer in Civil Engineering projects. Mr. Beaulieu was a Registered Professional Engineer and a licensed Professional Surveyor. He retired in 1981 after 24 years of service with the City of Portland's Engineering Division. Mr. Beaulieu lived many years at the family home on South Street, Freeport, and has resided for the last 30-plus years in Scarborough. Mr. Beaulieu was predeceased by his wife, Lucia D. Ellenwood; a brother, Jack; a son, Daniel; and daughters, Susan and Rosemary Beaulieu. Survivors are a sister, Claudette Rodin of Middletown, Conn.; and daughters, Nancy of Clinton Corners, N.Y., and Jeannette of Minot. Visiting hours will be 2-5 p.m., on Sunday, Nov. 21, at the Conroy-Tully Crawford Funeral Home, 172 State Street, Portland. Gisele M. Gacek PELHAM, N.H. - Gisele M. (Montminy) Gacek, 48, a communicant of St. Patrick Church, died Wednesday evening, Nov. 17, at Southern New Hampshire Medical Center in Nashua after a battle with cancer. She was the wife of Francis G. "Frank" Gacek for 26 years. Born in Lowell on Dec. 24, 1955, a daughter of Hector "Pete" and Normande (Blais) Montminy of Dracut, she was educated in Dracut schools and graduated from Dracut High School in 1973. MATHIEU, 83, of the Village at Elmhurst, 700 Smith St., a retired production controller, a former Central Falls councilman and champion of the Lithuanian-American community, died Tuesday at Rhode Island Hospital. He was the husband of A. Beatrice (Savickis) Mathieu; they had been married for 60 years. Born in Central Falls, a son of the late Louis and Cora (Fournier) Mathieu, he had lived in Central Falls for 30 years, and Bristol for 33 years, before moving to Providence 11 months ago. Mr. Mathieu had been a production controller and customer-service representative at Conyer Insulated Wire Co. in Lincoln for 44 years, until retiring in 1992. He had also worked at the former Premier Thread Co., in Bristol. In 1948, Mr. Mathieu was elected to the Central Falls City Council, from the 4th Ward; he served for seven years. He also had been a doorkeeper at the Rhode Island State House. He was a charter member of the Conyer Credit Union, where he had been a member of the board and had served as president for 18 years. He was also a past president of the former Cumberland Credit Union, now Marquette Credit Union, where he continued to serve on the board of directors. Mr. Mathieu was a member of the Knights of Lithuania, Council 103, and the American Lithuanian Citizens Beneficial Club, and had helped to establish a department of Lithuanian studies at the University of Illinois. At the Knights of Lithuania's national convention in 1988, he was honored with the organization's Distinguished Member Award, for his efforts on behalf of the Lithuanian community. He was a life member of Le Foyer, in Pawtucket, and a past president of the Le Foyer Toastmasters Club. Mr. Mathieu was a communicant of St. Casimir Church. He was a former communicant of St. Mary Church, in Bristol, and St. Matthew Church, in Central Falls, where he was a member and officer of the Union St. Jean-Baptiste, Council 428. Born in Fall River, a son of the late Elisee "John" and Catherine (Letourneau) Pineault, he had lived in Fall River, Swansea and Warren before moving to Stoughton in 1978. He returned to Fall River in 1994. Mr. Pineault had been an executive vice president and chief executive office of Harvey Probber Inc. for 21 years, and the president of Corcoran Mullins Jennison Mgt. Co., in Quincy, Mass., for 11 years. He had worked at J.R. Mullins Co., in Braintree, Mass., for 1 1/2 years; Ferland Corp., in Pawtucket, for 1 1/2 years; and Mirrione Companies, in Brockton, Mass., for 1 1/2 years. He had also worked for the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, in Boston, Westboro and Franklin, Mass., for eight years, as an FDIC liquidation specialist and section chief in the Owned Real Estate Division. He was a member of the board of directors of the Greater Boston Real Estate Board's Rental Housing Association. Mr. Pineault was a member and past president of the Institute of Real Estate Management, Boston chapter, and had held several offices with the IREM's Chicago chapter and the national organization. He was an IREM accredited resident manager and certified property manager. He also had been a visiting lecturer at the Columbia School of Real Estate Development and Management, and had served for several years as a dean for the Builders Association of Greater Boston's registered apartment manager training program. Brouillard, and a stepdaughter of Joyce Matteson of Coventry and Earl Aker of West Greenwich. She had lived in West Greenwich before moving to Coventry 19 years ago. She was a 1982 graduate of North Kingstown High School, and a 1983 honors graduate of the Sawyer School, where she received a legal secretary certificate. Ms. Marland had been working as an administrative assistant at Lighthouse Computer Services, in Lincoln, for the past seven months. She previously hd worked for a Providence-based environmental services company for more than 20 years. She had played softball in the Coventry Women's Slowpitch League for 12 years, before retiring after she had back surgery. She was a great fan of NASCAR auto racing, and Number 24, Jeff Gordon, and also of Miami Dolphins football, and Dan Marino. Besides her mother and her stepparents, she leaves three daughters, Nicole, Jonna and Ashley Marland, and a stepson, Michael Parente, all of Coventry; a sister, Denise Arver of West Warwick; a brother, Edward Brouillard of Coventry; her maternal grandmother, Edna Patterson of West Warwick; a stepsister, Linda Grace of Coventry; and two stepbrothers, Earl Aker in Connecticut and Dwayne Aker of Warwick. She was the wife of Robert J. Barney. Born in Central Falls, a daughter of Doris (Bourgeois) Dumont of Plainville, Mass., and the late Arthur Dumont, she had lived in Plainville before moving to Attleboro many years ago. Mrs. Barney had been a CNA at Pleasant Manor Nursing Home for many years, and had also been a sales representative for AVON products for several years. She enjoyed game shows and visits to local beaches. Vaughn R. Terrio Vaughn R. Terrio 1921 - 2004 SOUTHWICK - Vaughn R. Terrio, 83, died Friday, November 5, 2004 at the Soldiers Home in Holyoke. He was born in Millinocket, ME and was the son of the late Vernon and Helen Terrio. Vaughn was married to the late Dorothy (Hanks) Terrio who died in 1994. He was a Navy veteran of World War Two and Korea, and had retired in 1984 from the U.S. Postal Service where he was a mailman in Southwick. Vaughn was a member of Mount Moriah Lodge of Masons in Westfield and the Connecticut Valley of Scottish Rite in Springfield. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, basketball, football and had bowled for the Southwick Men's Bowling League. Vaughn leaves two step-sons, Richard Frigon and his wife Anne of Arlington, VA, Arthur Frigon and his wife Barbara of Belchertown; a step-daughter, Gloria Cahill and her husband Jack of Hurst, TX; a brother, Benjamin Terrio of Millinocket, ME; and a sister, Jackie Milley of Melbourne, FL. He also leaves seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. His brother Glen Terrio and sister Gloria Midura predeceased him. The burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. Daniel E. LeDuc Daniel E. LeDuc 1930 - 2004 WEST SPRINGFIELD - Daniel E. LeDuc, 73, formerly of Springfield, died Monday November 15, 2004, at East Longmeadow Health Care Center. Born in Fall River, the son of the late Daniel A. and Yvonne B. (Quellette) LeDuc, Daniel spent most of his life in the Springfield area. He was in inventory supply for the Unites States Air Force for 20 years retiring in 1968. He also worked for Poleps Brothers Paysaver in West Springfield and Del Liquor Store in Chicopee. He loved to play sports including softball, bowling, and golf. He did a great job playing for the United States Air Force and traveled all over the world. Daniel was also a great donator to Foxwoods. He is predeceased by his first wife, Grace (LaBarre) and his second wife, Edith (Hinkle). He leaves three sons, Arthur and his wife Joan Gauthier of Chicopee, Robert and his wife Donna Gauthier of West Springfield, William R. Gauthier of Somerset; a daughter, Elaine and her husband Lonnie Waterman of Springfield; grandchildren, Michael Waterman, Robert Gauthier, Jr., Michelle A. Theriault, Jason Powell, Mary A. Waterman, Gary Powell, Cindy A. Regnier, Tammy A. Yacovone, Kimberly and Margo Gauthier; 10 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. A calling hour will be Saturday from 9:30 - 10:30am at the Hafey Springfield Chapels, 494 Belmont Avenue, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Name Church at 11:00am. Roland M. LeBeau Roland M. LeBeau 1926 - 2004 EASTHAMPTON - Roland M. "Porky" LeBeau, 78, of 2 West St., died Monday at the VA Medical Center in Leeds. He was a World War II veteran serving in the US Army as a paratrooper in the 11th Airborne Division. He was a civilian working at the Westover Air Force Base in Chicopee in the roads and grounds division working with heavy equipment. The funeral will be held Friday morning 9 a.m. from the Ahearn Funeral Home, 783 Bridge Rd., Northampton followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Sacred Heart Church at 10 a.m. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery in Northampton. Donald Benoit Donald Benoit 1911 - 2004 SOUTH HADLEY - Donald A. Benoit, 93, of Lathrop St., died Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2004 at the Holyoke Medical Center. Born in South Hadley, he was educated in South Hadley schools and was a 1929 graduate of South Hadley High School. Donald was a lifelong resident of South Hadley and worked as Group Leader for National Blank Book for 47 years until he retired in 1976. He was a former member of the Old Timers' Club of National Blank Book, the South Hadley Council on Aging and the Choralites, the Golden Agers, the Lathrop Village Social Club, a parishioner of St. Patrick's Church, and was an honorary member of the Local 48B Printers Union. He was the husband of the late Margaret "Dolly" (Ginley) Benoit who died in 1984, and the father of the late Donald P. Benoit who died in 1997. He is survived by a daughter, Carolyn Woods of South Hadley; one granddaughter, Christa Benoit; and a dear friend, Elaine Kowalczyk; as well as several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be held on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. from the Ryder Funeral Home 33 Lamb St., South Hadley followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Patrick's Church at 10:30 a.m. and burial in St. Rose Cemetery, both in South Hadley.
