Born in Auburn, April 9, 1917, the daughter of Alphonce and Nelida Bolduc Hamel, she attended Auburn schools. On Feb. 7, 1942 she married Elmo A. Fortier of H. Fortier and Sons Locksmith. She was a full-time homemaker and enjoyed traveling, gardening, cooking, walking, golfing and her grandchildren. She was a member of St. Angela Merice Catholic Church. Survivors include a son, Cris C. Fortier of Reno, Nev.; a daughter, Patricia L. Fortier of Walnut Creek, Calif.; two grandchildren, Michael and Carrie Fortier; and a sister, Juliette Bergeron of Shelton, Conn. He was born in Ellenburg on Oct. 3, 1917, the son of Emmett and Melvina (Willette) Duffina. Harry was a farmer most of his life and worked at Dragoon's Farm Equipment. He was a wonderful husband, a dedicated father and grandfather. He will be greatly missed by his friends and family. He is survived by his wife, Ruth (Garrow) Duffina; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ernest and Cathy Duffina of Tennessee and Donald and Beverly Duffina of Mooers; two daughters, Sandra and companion Jean Romat of Mooers and Susan Carr and companion Robert McChesney of Rouses Point; two brothers, Roger Duffina of Point Au Roche and Richard "Red" Duffina of Cisne, Ill.; two sisters, Rita Magoon of Plattsburgh and Ruth Hicks of Tennessee; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by a daughter, Judith in 1974. Three brothers, Francis, Louis and Lawrence; and a sister, Dora also died earlier. There will be no calling hours. Cora and her husband Joseph were the proprietors of the Bouquet Diner in Elizabethtown. The Bouquet Diner was a eatery where many travelers stopped to enjoy the food and hospitality. After 12 years of service the diner was sold in 1995. Cora began work for Rev. William H. Coffey as the rectory housekeeper of St. Elizabeth's Parish in Elizabethtown. She was a companion to Father Coffey's mother until her passing. Cora continued on as parish house keeper for Father Coffey throughout his active priesthood. Father Coffey's health began to fail and in 1998 he entered a nursing home. Cora retired at the age of 96, when her employment ended. She is predeceased by her first husband, Fredrick Graham and their six children, Lloyd, Richard, Frederick, Robert, Howard and Earl, all of whom served in World War II; her second husband, Joseph Lashway; five brothers; four sisters; and several grand and great-grandchildren. She is survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and daughters-in-law. Calling hours will be held Thursday from 10 a.m. to noon with an American Legion Auxiliary Service at 11 a.m. at W.M. Marvin's Sons Funeral Home in Elizabethtown. A funeral service will follow at 12:30 at St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church in Elizabethtown. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery. Much loved daughter of Chantal Ménard (friend Mike Lapensée) of Sturgeon Falls. Dear sister of Douglas at home. Sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her grand-parents Raymond and Madelaine (Sabourin) Ménard of Verner. Great-granddaughter of Délicia Ménard (late Edmond) of Verner and of André Sabourin (late Claire) of Parry Sound. Dear niece of Sophie Ménard (Kurt) of Alberta and Roch Ménard (Helen) of Val-Caron, and also missed by Samantha Disley. Désirée will be missed by her affectionate cat Tigger. A graduate of Our Lady of Sorrows School, Désirée was a grade 10 student at Northern Secondary School. Outgoing and congenial, she enjoyed life and was especially happy when surrounded by friends and family swimming at the cottage. She was the best babysitter for her brother Douglas. Recently Désirée had participated in the West Nipissing pageant and was awarded the best costume award. Her tragic loss has created much grief in the hearts of those who loved her most. Madeleine Cadieux > Noel + Marthe Golle WATERLOO-CEDAR FALLS COURIER, SUNDAY, OCTOBER 12, 2003 PAGE B4 Dolores Brownell (1922-2003) OELWEIN-- Dolores Brownell, 80, of Oelwein, died Friday, Oct. 10 at Mercy Hospital, Oelwein, of cancer. She was born Nov. 7, 1922, in Oelwein, daugher of Joseph and Evelyn Fortier. She graduated from Sacred Heart School in Oelwein and upon graduation worked at the telephone office for two years. On June 6, 1942, she married Gene Brownell. They farmed for many years in the Maynard area. Dolores was a devoted farm wife and mother. She was a long time member of St. Francis Catholic church of Fayette and served on the Alter Society. She was a member of the Farm Bureau Women's Chorus and worked for many years on the Election Board. Dolores enjoyed crafting and playing cards. She dearly loved her family and enjoyed nothing better than spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include her husband, Gene; two daughters, Kay (Phil) Johnson of Rolfe, Iowa, and Judy (Dale) Cowell of Wauzeka, Wis.; two sons, Gary (Janice) Brownell of Randalia, Iowa, and Bill (Diane) Brownell of Jesup, Iowa; 17 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren. Dolores was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Jack Fortier; a sister, Collette Dibble; a son, Richard Brownell and a great-granddaughter, Katie Farmer. A memorial Mass will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Oelwein with Father Fangman officiating. There will be no visitation. A memorial fund will be established. Arrangements by Cremation society of Eastern Iowa.
