He was born in Holyoke Jan. 27, 1927 son of the late Eugene & Lucia (Richard) Couture. He graduated from Perpetual Help School, Holyoke High School, and American International College. He was a WWII veteran having served in the Navy as a Radioman 3rd class, V-6, USNR. He was a former Personnel Manager at Diamond International Corp. in Springfield and a Personnel Administrator at United Technologies Corp. (formerly American Bosch) in Springfield. He was also the President of The Industrial Relations Association of Western Mass. He and his wife moved to Chicopee in 1955. He was a communicant of Nativity B.V.M. parish. He was involved in scouting and also coached youth baseball. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Simone M (Gagnon) Couture and his 4 children: son Richard E Couture Jr. and his wife Maryann of Glastonbury CT, son Robert R Couture of Pembroke MA and his wife Laura, son David J Couture and his wife Jean of Westminster MA, and daughter Paula M Mendrala and her husband Joseph of Holyoke MA. Ouimette 76, of Parc Place, Southampton died Sunday May 27 in the Cooley Dickinson Hospital, Northampton. He was born May 5, 1931 in Northampton the son of the late Myron and Catherine (Stokely) Ouimette. He attended schools in Easthampton and graduated from Holyoke Trade. He attended Allied Institute of Technology in Chicago and attended Westfield State College and Framingham State College. He owned the former Charles E. Ouimette and Sons Construction Co. in Southampton before becoming a teacher at Chicopee Comp. from 1981 to 1996. Charles was a communicant of Immaculate Conception Church and former member of the Southampton Lion's Club, Easthampton Knights of Columbus. He was active in town government in Southampton since 1976 a member of the Planning Board and in 1980 was appointed Assistant Director of Inspection Services and in 1981 became the Director of Inspection Services and Zoning Inforcement Officer. Charles was a Scout Master, 4 H-Leader, Band Booster Club and Sports Booster Club for Hampshire Regional High School. He was a Korean War Veteran serving in the US Airborne Rangers. He retired from teaching in 1996 and his Government activities in 2005. Charles was named Southampton Citizen of the year in 2004. Charles is survived by his wife Constance (Paradise) Ouimette, six sons Charles E. and Mary Kathleen Ouimette, Thomas G. He was born in Van Buren, Maine on November 11, 1919, a beloved son of the late Adelard and Euphemie (Parent) Cote. He was raised in Van Buren, Maine and moved to Springfield in 1949. He served his country during World War II in the United States Army Air Corps with the 433rd Headquarters and Base Service Squadron and attained the rank of Private First Class. He served in the Rhineland, Ardennes, Central Europe, Normandy and the Air Offensive Europe. He received the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. Following his military service, he was employed for 28 years as an inspector at the Hamilton Standard Company in Windsor Locks, CT and retired in 1979. He was a communicant of All Souls Church in Springfield. He leaves his beloved wife of over 59 years, Elizabeth (Aubin) Cote. His loving children, Verna C. Arndt and her husband Gary of Prospect, CT, Rena Spice and her husband Lee of Westfield and Ivan E. Cote and his wife Patricia of Palmer. He also leaves his eight cherished grandchildren, his 13 cherished great grandchildren and several dear nephews and nieces. His funeral and burial will be private at the convenience of his family. Desroches 1934-2007 WESTFIELD, MASS. - John "Jay" Desroches was called home by God on May 22, 2007 after a courageous 24 year battle with cancer. Born in Holyoke on August 3, 1934 to the late Armand and Marie (Leeming) Desroches, Jay attended local schools in Holyoke and South Hadley and graduated from South Hadley High School in 1953. During his life, Jay was an independent sales representative for a number of insurance companies and retired from the sales department of the former Springfield Journal newspaper. Music was Jay's passion for years, and he played both alto and tenor saxophone with various area dance bands from the 1950s to the early 1980s, including his own dance band The Four Coachman. As electronic rock music became the preferred choice at weddings and social events, Jay turned his love of music to his church and played in the orchestras at both the Bethany Assembly of God in Agawam and the Westfield Assembly of God in Westfield during the early 1990's. Jay was the founder of The Power House Gang, an internet Christian group of prayer warriors from across the United States and Canada whose ministry was to pray for those in need of God's gentle, loving touch. Besides his wife of 20 years Patricia Abrum Desroches, Jay leaves three sons- Jack Desroches of South Hadley, Reverend Michael Desroches of Palm Coast, Florida and Reverend Jeffrey Desroches of Chicopee; his brother Phillip Desroches of Palatka, Florida; five grandchildren; a stepson Dean Majka of Virginia Beach, VA and his beloved little dog Joey. She fought a courageous fight and died with dignity and grace at home surrounded by her family. Marlene was born on July 5, 1935 in West Springfield to Reginald and Nora (Polverari) Matte. She moved to Springfield in 1941 with her family, graduated from Commerce High School in 1952, and returned to West Springfield in 1954. Marlene was employed by the New England Telephone Company in Springfield, where she made several lifelong friends. She left the telephone company in 1956 to marry and raise a family. Marlene was a stay-at-home mother in the finest tradition of June Cleaver. She was a Cub Scout den mother, Girl Scout leader, WSHS Football Gridiron mother, and a bingo volunteer at St. Louis de France Church. She is survived by her husband, Carmino J. Santaniello, Sr., with whom she recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary, her son and daughter-in-law, Carmino Jr. and Donna Santaniello of West Springfield, her daughter and son-in-law, Gina and Richard Velosky of Feeding Hills, and seven grandchildren, Stefanie, Carmino III, Samantha, Carlee, and Christopher Santaniello, and Ashley and Angela Velosky. (Porteri) Trombley passed away on Saturday August 18, 2007 surrounded by her family. She was born in Wilbraham, MA on October 22, 1925 to the late John and Edvidge (Consolini) Porteri. Julia was a longtime Wilbraham resident. She attended Wilbraham's Little Red Schoolhouse and graduated from Commerce High School in Springfield in 1942. Upon graduation she worked for the New England Telephone Company in the accounting department. During WWII she enlisted in the US Cadet Nursing Corp and attended training at Norwalk Hospital Nursing School, Norwalk, CT. She married Raymond G. Trombley on October 27, 1945. Together with her sisters, they operated the family-owned High Tower Tea Room atop Wilbraham Mountain. "The Tower" was a landmark gathering place for many area residents. Julie was the co-founder of the first public kindergarten established in Wilbraham. She was a Girl Scout leader and was active in St. Cecilia's Church as a group leader of the Junior Catholic Daughters of America. She was a communicant of the St. Cecilia's Church, a member of St. Cecilia's Women's Club, the church choir and chairwoman of the church bazaar during the fifties and sixties. Julie started Tower Hill Greenhouse in 1963 along with her husband. They were well known for growing geraniums and operated the greenhouse as a seasonal business for 44 years. She was also a member of the American Ex-POW group and the Westover Officer's Club. Besides her parents Julia was predeceased by her brother Lawrence Porteri, and four sisters, Alice Hodgdon, Louise Scafidi, Beatrice Prokop, and Clara Elkas. She is survived by her husband of over sixty years, Raymond G. Trombley; her daughter, Pamela Reed and her husband Loring of Wilbraham; a granddaughter Christina Reed and a grandson, Michael Reed; a sister Dorothy Simpson and her husband John of Nashua, NH; and her nieces and nephews. À Montréal, le 16 août 2007, est décédé, à l'âge de 86 ans, Monsieur Guy Dessaulles, prêtre de Saint-Sulpice, fils d'Henri Dessaulles et de Marguerite Hamel décédés. Après ses études théologiques au Grand Séminaire de Montréal, il est ordonné prêtre le 15 juin 1946 pour le diocèse de Montréal. Il enseigne au Séminaire de Philosophie. Au terme de la Solitude, il entre dans la Compagnie de Saint-Sulpice en août 1949. Par la suite, après des études en chimie à Paris et à Montréal, il enseigne la chimie au Séminaire de Philosophie, puis au Collège André-Grasset. Il prend sa retraite en 1986 à la résidence Jean-Jacques-Olier. En 1995, il accepte de prendre en charge pour une période de quatre ans la paroisse cathédrale du Sacré-Coeur à Prince-Albert, Saskatchewan. Il termine sa retraite au Séminaire de St-Sulpice. Le défunt laisse dans le deuil ses frères Jacques (Pauline Rousseau) et Henri (Hélène Ducharme) ainsi que Catherine Dessaulles et plusieurs neveux et nièces. Les funérailles auront lieu le mardi 28 août, 11 h, à la Chapelle Notre-Dame-du-Sacré-Coeur en la Basilique Notre-Dame. Né à Richelieu le 3 juin 1916, fils d'Alphonse Bessette et de Rose-Azilda Dubuc, il entra dans la Congrégation de Sainte-Croix en 1936. Le père Bessette a été professeur durant de nombreuses années, notamment à l'Externat classique Ste-Croix et supérieur au Séminaire Sainte-Croix. Il a été directeur et fondateur du Collège de Plessisville en 1957. Le père Bessette a oeuvré dans le ministère paroissial à Plessisville et dans la région de Thetford Mines. Il a aussi été curé à Saint-Grégoire-le-Grand. Outre ses confrères, le père Bessette laisse dans le deuil ses frères Roger Bessette, c.s.c, Bernard Bessette (Ghislaine Boulé), Raymond Bessette (Élise Bouchard), de nombreux parents et amis neveux et nièces. She moved to Putnam, CT in 1943 and lived in CT until 1973 when she moved to Florida. Dupuis, 66, of Town Garage Road, died Saturday, Aug. 18, 2007, at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H. He was born May 31, 1941, in Bellows Falls, the son of Karl D. and Eleanor (Potvin) Dupuis. Mr. Dupuis attended schools in Bellows Falls. He worked as a track inspector for the Boston & Main Railroad for 32 years. He was a member of the Abenaki Rod and Gun Club and the NRA. He served in the United States Army National Guard. Mr. Dupuis enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing and reading. His biggest joy was his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and his dog, Christy. He was the founder of the Connecticut River Fishing Derby. Mr. Dupuis is survived by his wife, Sandra Wyman of Westminster; his mother, Eleanor Dupuis, of North Westminster; three sons, Rodney and wife Kim, and David and wife Donna of Westminster, and Joseph and wife Cindy Lou of Chester; one daughter, Lori Haddad and husband Jason of Putney; two brothers, Ronny of Arizona and Peter of Rockingham; 15 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Mr. Dupuis was predeceased by his father and two sons, Timothy and Michael. There will be a funeral service Wednesday, Aug. 22, at the Fenton & Hennessey Funeral Home, Bellows Falls, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Harold Noyes. Mr. Galanes was born in the Mutual Aid Home on Harris Place in Brattleboro on Aug. 27, 1930, the son of James G. Galanes and Vera (Dube) Galanes. He was raised and educated in Brattleboro and attended Cranwell Prep School in Lenox, Mass., graduating with the class of 1948. He went on to attend and graduate from Norwich University and then served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Mr. Galanes owned and operated Galanes' Store on Main Street and was involved with the store for 60 years, initially working under his father before taking over the business with his brother, Philip Galanes. On June 14, 1952, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Brattleboro, he was married to Mary Barrett, who survives. Besides his wife of 55 years, he leaves three daughters, Linda Galanes of Brattleboro, Melissa S. Galanes and husband Richard DeGray, also of Brattleboro, and Catina M. Grass of Holyoke, Mass; four sons, James B. Galanes of Anchorage, Alaska, Jerome W. Galanes and his longtime companion Susan Nelson, of North Carolina, Matthew Galanes and wife Lynn of Keene, N.H., and Joseph Galanes and wife Sari of Sharon. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, two great-granddaughters and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Timothy, who died in infancy, his brother Philip Galanes and his grandson Nicholas Grass. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 a.m. at St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church on Walnut Street. Burial will follow in St. Michael's Parish Cemetery.
