Hello, again: First of all, I would like the List to know that I got a huge windfall with my query to the 1891 Census for Farnham and Cowansville. My grandfather and one of his brothers have been spotted. Now, I can document their story of being on a farm with assurance which is most gratifying. However, I am curious if anyone call give me some ideas as to how these young men from England would have found their ways to these two communities. They probably left England from Southampton in the spring of 1889 after the death of their father. The family today has no idea why they would have selected Quebec. Nor do we have any idea as to their arrival city. If any List member has any ideas on this subject, I would welcome their input. To the best of my knowledge there were no relatives who would have preceded them. Eventually, the brothers made their way to Massachusetts and lived there for the most of their lives. Once again, my thanks for such remarkable assistance. They may have been 'Home Children' like my grandfather. He, and at least 2 of his siblings came from Liverpool in 1893, at ages 11, 13 & 15 to the Distributing Home in Knowlton QC in 1893, following the death of their mother. From there they were sent out as laborers & often mistreated. Check for more information through the Canadian National Archives website.
