I am trying to read some photocopies of 1831 Canadian Census I made while on a rushed trip to Canada way back in 2003. I have a printout of "Categories in the 1831 Census" but my printout does not 'fit' with the actual census photocopies. I am hoping you can correct/add to my list. The "Categories listing that I have starts with (1) Name of parish, seigniory, township, ward or division of a town (2) Name of family head (3) Owns home (4) Trade or profession (5) Total number of family members and more..... The photocopy of the actual census record's columns are (1) Name of parish, seigniory, township, ward or division of a town - then there are four columns with numbers - then in column (6) Name of family head -- then two columns with numbers -- then in column (9) Trade or profession .... If I assign "Name of family head" as column (6), and "Trade or profession as column (9), then both documents agree from column (9) Trade or profession, on through column 43, where my listing of categories ends. The "Categories in the 1831 Census" listing goes through 43 columns, but some of the photocopies have at least 48 columns. I would appreciate any help you can give me in getting a complete and correct listing of the columns in the 1831 census. I have searched everywhere I know to find a blank copy of the 1831 Canadian Census but have not been successful. I have found the 1851 and many other census forms on ancestry.com and elsewhere, but I have had no luck with this particular census. Any help would be appreciated. --Carl Sheperd <carljamesheperd@yahoo.com>
