    1. [CAN-QC-MISSISQUOI] Esek Baker 1812 soldier
    2. >From Pat and if you can help her please email her dehaanp@msn.com From: Pat Dehaan Sent: Tuesday, December 08, 2009 6:30 PM Subject: Esek Baker Hello, My name is Patt DeHaan. I am a Daughter of National Society Daughters of 1812. We are researching veterans from the War of 1812 that are Buried here in Michigan. We are trying to locate all the soldiers from the War here in Michigan and document for the future their location and possibly mark them for service. Esek Baker we are told was a soldier during the War of 1812. He is buried here in Michigan and has just recently been found. But he has never had a head stone. We would love to help obtain that headstone he deserves. Family genealogy tells us that Esek was a soldier during the War of 1812. However, it does not tell us which side he served on. We have not been able to locate proof of service or how he served. If you could help us that would be great. I see his name on the website as a temperance signer around 1825. If you could tell us why he came to Canada also that would be great too. We assume that he had family there. So far there are no Baker's currently living in that part of Michigan now and no other family history of him in the area, but he was an early Michigan pioneer. Until a year ago when I finally found him in old cemetery records no one knew he was there. Here is what we know so far. Esek (Esick) (Isaac) Baker born 1779 in Rhode Island. Married Ruth and lived in MASS before coming to Canada. Had son Harvey born 1803 in MASS. We have found an Esek Baker in the 1810 census, but we don't know if this is the same family. In 1820 he is not listed. Family genealogy has them moving to Quebec, Canada around 1805. I know Esek and two sons Harvey and Jason and family came to Michigan around 1836. His daughter Huldah married here in Michigan around 1838. If you can help us with any other information or military service, which side for 1812, and the unit that would be fantastic. We would be so overjoyed. I have been looking for over two years. I can hardly wait for your response. Thanks. Please try my other email address at dehaanp@msn.com Patrice DeHaan
