Oh my Oh my, what are the ways to read these letters. You mentioned my ancestors in the last paragragh. Robert Carty was my 4th greatgrandfather and I believe Elizabeth ( Elizabeth might have been an Armstrong ) could have been his mother. OH please let me know as soon as possible. I stumbled across them quite by accident. They are collection of letters to and from the Galusha and Armstrong families, (from he mid to late 1800’s, though there are a few from earlier than that), who were elated by the marriage of Aaron Leland Galusha to Sarah Armstrong. They were onated to the Lowell National Historical Park. People in the letters: Amy Galusha, also known as Nin, wrote a majority of the letters. She worked in ills in Lowell and in Vermont. Also her mother Polly Larabee Galusha, who was arried to William Galusha. They lived in Berkshire, VT. Amy’s siblings: Helen Jane Galusha who married William Kendall. They moved to isconsin. Aaron L. Galusha “Lele or Leal” married Sarah Armstrong. Arvilla alusha “Vill” who married George Drent. Mattia Galusha married Orrin Taft. William Galusha married Mattie. The Armstrongs that either wrote letters or are mentioned in them- Samuel rmstrong- he spent years in the Oregon territory and worked as a minor. Several of the letters are from him detailing Indian Wars and his time out est. George Armstrong, Sarah Armstrong and Sarah Ann Armstrong (Sarah rellar), Sarah Booth, Marshall Armstrong. There are some letters to/from Lucretia Le Frary of Sutton. Also some letters ritten during the Civil War by a family friend.. There are tons of other people mentioned in the letters, in chats about day to ay life. I am descended from George L. Here is what I know about Samuel: Born Dec 10, 1827 and baptised July 13, 1828 at Frelighsburg Holy Trinity Anglican Church. He was married to Rachel Booth (1839-1915), daughter of Joshua Booth and Sara Taylor, around 1859. I know nothing of an Isabella Armstrong, and in fact if Rachel's date of birth is correct I don't believe that would be their child. I think there was a child, Florence Adelaide Armstrong born 1861 and died 12 December 1871 in Berkshire, VT. I believe Samuel died around 1869 in Vermont. Rachel then married William Armstrong (Samuel's brother) around 1872. William had been married to Mary Jane (Ann?) Booth, sister to Rachel. Mary Jane died in 1871. I'm not sure if you are familiar with the Galusha Letters- they are a collection of letters donated to a museum in Lowell, MA. I can tell you more about them if you are not familiar. Anyway Samuel wrote several of those letters, and I can send you transcripts if you are interested. My questions on the Armstrongs have to do with George. I have seen conflicting documents asying he was born in Canada and he was bornn in Ireland. I am also trying to find a ship's manifest for the Armstrong's journey.
