Ernie, I am Sue Goff's husband John, and am the one who knows most about the Goffs. There are about half a dozen Goff lines in the United States, whose interrelationship (probably in England) is not known. I am from the Maryland Goff line, which is associated with the "Four Brothers": James, John, Thomas, and Salathiel, who landed in Maryland around 1760-70. This line is well-researched. If you are from this line I can steer you in the right direction. Who is the earliest Goff ancestor that you know about and are derived from? For other lines, there is the Goff/Gough Association and you can get in touch with them from their website. I was in correspondence with a Goff whose predecessors immigrated to Newfoundland, and afterwards to the U.S. I thought I had notes on correspondence with him but I can't find them. His name is John A. Goff, on the staff at Univ. of Texas in Austin (goff@ig.utexas.edu). There are lots of unanswered questions about the Goffs, and if you have information to be added it will be welcomed. John Goff can-qc-missisquoi-request@rootsweb.com wrote: > Today's Topics: > > 1. Hi John Goff. The earliest of our Goff ancestors is Zacharias Goff who immigrated from England in the early 1820s. He was born Kenton, Devonshire, England in 1787 and died in Leeds Village, Megantic County, Quebec, Canada in 1874. He came to Canada with a daughter, Sarah Goff and possibly a son, Thomas. Zacharias had three wives and some sources list more than thirty children. I have twenty that I have found. Some of these removed to the USA. There is a tiny cemetery on the Goff farm in Leeds that is not much more than 30 feet square. >From what you indicated in your email, I do not think the families are the same, but one never knows.
