2. Hi, I tried to start a new thread on this site but being computer challenged I just couldn't do it.? I am trying to?find a member of this group that in November, 2007 was looking for information on a EZRA CARPENTER.? I might have some information for you if you would like to contact me at jmceagle@aol.com.? Please put in the subject line CARPENTER/JOY and I will see if I can help you any.? I have just myself found this information so you might also be interested in it. 3. Hi Margaret I went to the website you said to go to but the only Census reports on the page it didn't include a census screen. It also didn't include the 1881 census. The only census reports I could select to search were the 1901, 1906, 1911, 1852CA, 1851NB census. I must have missed a step. Can you check back and let me know please? The name LeBert was changed from Hebert. I'll check youfolks.com for the Charles Hebert as you suggested. Kind Regards Patti ________________________________ From: "thomaslanefarm@att.net" <thomaslanefarm@att.net> To: can-qc-missisquoi@rootsweb.com Sent: Friday, January 23, 2009 9:24:11 PM Subject: Re: [CAN-QC-MISSISQUOI] seeking LeBare and Moor family information To Patti Molenaar Go to automatedgenealogy.com/census. This is the version done by volunteers. I, too, had trouble finding the 1881 census. I finally brought it up in the family search screen. Go to the census screen. I put in just Charles, born Quebec in 1812 + or- 5 years.. With the older age and the Quebec birth it was then right there. Interesting note that Charles may have been listed somewhere as Charles Hebert. On yourfolks.com a Jane Sawyer married a Charles Hebert in 1843 in Brome. According to your dates, Jane had John when she was about 15. Her parents could have objected to the marriage as she was a minor, & they were married later on & perhaps only after Charles agreed to be married in her church. I suspect Charles came from a Roman Catholic family. A lot of ifs. If you have ancestry.ca with the 1843 date and the Brome, you may possibly be able to check this out with the Drouin records Margaret Benelli.

-------------- Original message from Patti Molenaar <pattimolenaar@yahoo.com>: --------------

> What a very interesting reply indeed!
> Yes I do have the 1901 census report which gives Charles' birth date as 08 May 1808. However, his headstone (which I have a photo of) as well as other census reports and marriage records cite different birth dates so I purposely listed it
> to be abt. 1812.
> I don't seem to be able to get to the 1881 Census report on-line in order to review the notation you mentioned from the researcher and their contact details who stated that his wife was also a great great great granddaughter. 3. Hi Ernie According to the 1851 Census Charles LaBare and his wife Louise resided in the sub-district of Dunham in Missisquoi County (see notes below). There is a LeBare family on the same census perhaps a brother? This is "Mack LeBare" (who appears on line 10 on the same page as Charles LaBare) followed by his wife Larose and their children. I believe these are Macquire and Rosa LaBare who next appear in the 1891 Census in the sub-district of Stanbridge in Missisquoi County, Quebec. Name: Charles LaBare Gender: Male Age: 59 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1793 Birthplace: Canada Born of Canadian Parents: Yes Province: CanadaEast (Quebec) District: MissisquoiCounty District Number: 16 Sub-District: Dunham Sub-District Number: 223 Page: 136 Line: 24 Roll: C_1127 Schedule: A Charles Jr. would have been abt. 39 years old by 1851 and therefore I am assuming he would have been married and living in his own household. Unfortunately the earliest record I can find for Charles Jr. is the 1891 Census (see notes below). Name: Charles Labear Gender: Male Marital Status: Married Age: 79 Birth Year: abt 1812 Birthplace: Quebec Relation to Head of House: Head Religion: Methodist French Canadian: No Father's Birth Place: Quebec Mother's Birth Place: Quebec Province: Ontario District Number: 101 District: Ontario South Subdistrict: WhitbyTown Archive Roll #: T-6358 I would like to find the 1851 Census report for Charles LeBare Jr. and any records of his birth or baptism and marriage which I believe may be among early MissisquoiCounty records. I'm also hoping to discover the names of Charles LeBare Sr. and his wife Louise Niesnard's parents or if Charles and Louise came to live in Missisquoi County after they were married. If you or anyone else among the CAN-QC-MISSISQUOI group can help me source those records I would be very grateful. Kind Regards Patti MolenaarThe Netherlands ________________________________ From: Ernie Turner <eb_turner@hotmail.com> To: can-qc-missisquoi@rootsweb.com Sent: Friday, January 16, 2009 1:22:54 AM Subject: Re: [CAN-QC-MISSISQUOI] seeking LeBare and Moor family information Hi Patti: Myrtle, Whitby Township is in Ontario. 2. M&I
    3. To Patti Molenaar's question - Charles LeBare might possibly be Charles Hebert or Hubert, based on the fact that the -s- and the -h- are not pronounced in French, and the -l- was mistakenly tied to the last name, when it was pronounced, resulting in Charles LeBare. So, it may be that on the 1851 census, the census-taker used Hebert/Hubert? It's reaching, I know, but it happened in our line for one of the names I couldn't find. ----- Original Message ----- From: <thomaslanefarm@att.net> To: <can-qc-missisquoi@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, January 19, 2009 8:22 AM Subject: Re: [CAN-QC-MISSISQUOI] seeking LeBare and Moor family information > To Patti Molenaar: re: Charles LaBare > > You do not mention finding Charles in the 1901 census. 3. What a very interesting reply indeed! Yes I do have the 1901 census report which gives Charles' birth date as 08 May 1808. However, his headstone (which I have a photo of) as well as other census reports and marriage records cite different birth dates so I purposely listed it to be abt. 1812. I don't seem to be able to get to the 1881 Census report on-line in order to review the notation you mentioned from the researcher and their contact details who stated that his wife was also a great great great granddaughter. I am so curious about that and hope I will be able to view it soon. Do you have the web address to the page Charles appears on in the 1881 Census report by any chance? In reference to the note saying Charles was a widower in 1881, I have found a Marriage record for "a" Charles LeBair and M. Ann Widden, Marriage Date: 28 Sep 1881, Registration Number: 59619, Source: Indexed by: Genealogical Research Library. I don't know if this is the same Charles because I can't view the original record online. I do have a copy of his marriage record to Marie Bourdineau, however. They were married on 5 July 1897. This marriage record gives Charles’ place of birth as Pointe Levis Quebec and his age as 86 years along with his estimated year of birth as abt 1811. It also lists his Father’s Name as Chas Lebert and his mother's name as Louise Niesnard, which fits. It also give the parents names for Marie Bourdineau, her age, est. birth year and the marriage place as Victoria, Victoria County. Family History Library Microfilm: MS932_94. Family history is full of surprises isn't it! Kind Regards Patti Molenaar ________________________________ From: "thomaslanefarm@att.net" <thomaslanefarm@att.net> To: can-qc-missisquoi@rootsweb.com Sent: Monday, January 19, 2009 3:22:48 PM Subject: Re: [CAN-QC-MISSISQUOI] seeking LeBare and Moor family information To Patti Molenaar: re: Charles LaBare You do not mention finding Charles in the 1901 census. I found him by merging alternate spellings with LaBare. (Go to automated genealogy). LaBare is spelled as LaBair. This census gives an exact birthdate. His line is flagged with a note as to the 1881 census (Charles was a widower in 1881), and, furthermore, a researcher has stated that his wife is also a great great great granddaughter of Charles. 2. Kathleen Grubb Bailey
    3. I know that this is not related to the subject of the message board, but I thought some of you would be interested to know that the 1911 census for England and Wales was released this week. This is the most recent census available in the UK. This service is not free and does require payment. However you can do a free preliminary search which will show you the results of your search and then you pay to view the images. If you would like to view the website go here. http://www.1911census.co.uk/ This was the first UK census which the householder filled in him/herself rather than it being done by an official enumerator so you would be able to see your ancestors own handwriting. Please be aware that not all of the counties are available yet, but the site does give details of what you can look for and what is still being prepared. 1. Re: [CAN-QC-MISSISQUOI] Wasteland
    2. Bev was just reading your note once again, before I moved it form my e mail I am not an expert on Brome county. Missisquoi perhaps a bit if you take a look at my web pages on Clarenceville and Noyan BUt I just wanted to make sure you knew that most of this area was first and foremost considered by the British Army who were running things after 1759 to be a land where they did not want settlers of English background to stay in .... they were very very concerned that those Americans who were moving up into this area were perhaps less Loyal British subjects with American ideas the original idea was to keep the French speaking population in this area, leave some Indians there or to have no one at all in this area maybe that is why it was labled wasteland It was only with a lot of pressure that the governing body caved and created the township type of settlement allowing the Americans who were moving north to take over lots of land and most of these lots were little lots of 100 acres there was not many who managed to get their hands on more than that in the beginning My grandfather left the original 100 acres lot , well by this time it was two lots of 100 acres to his children in 1976 when he passed away ... it had never been a very big farming operation and his children sold if off right away ....... As to having your written word verified you might want to talk with Judy at the Miissquoi Museum she just might be willing to proof read your stuff Doug
