Here is a picture of the church I believe you wish to visit. http://tinyurl.com/lpma92 It's now designated as "United" formerly "Methodist" as per the site. The site's address is http://www.lieuxdeculte.qc.ca It's a French site, but since it's run by town names, this should not be a problem. As a region, look for "monteregie". There is another Protestant church in Philipsburg, but I don't know which denomination; it's on South Street. One of my ancestors is buried there. St-Armand and Philipsburg were two distinct villages, combined and renamed by Gov't... of course, the locals ignore this and still recognize the two names, sometimes even on the signage. St-Armand is on one side of the Canada-US highway, and Philipsburg on the other. Hope this helps, Lorraine In Montreal
I was wondering if anyone knew exactly where I could find the Cowansville Protestant Cemetery, which is also known as the Congregational Cemetery at Dunham. Also, is there a list out there of the gravestones? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Kathleen __________________________________________________________________ Yahoo! Most of the cemeteries in the area are covered in internment.net http://www.interment.net/can/qc/index.htm There are some 50 in and arround Stanstead alone thus the above will help you to know which to concentrate on and how to locate them. For anyone researching in the Eastern Townships there is a wealth of information at these sites http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~qceastwn/archives.html http://www.griffincunningham.net/davis/misscountymain2.htm The later link will show you the closeness of Philipsbug and St. Armand Bishops University in Sherbrooke houses the Eastern Township Research Center. Excellent Missisquoi Museum is open five days a week Missisquoi Historical Society is open at least Monday to Wednesday These are all mentioned in the above sites Hope this helps Linda urwithlinda@videotron.ca ----- Original Message ----- From: "Paula Price" <paulajprice@yahoo.com> To: <CAN-QC-MISSISQUOI@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, July 19, 2009 8:09 PM Subject: [CAN-QC-MISSISQUOI] Methodist/Anglican cemeteries > > Hello, > > I am traveling from Missouri, USA to Missisquoi County to do some family > research and I was hoping you might be able to help me. > > Specifically I am looking for the names/locations of cemeteries. > > In St-Armand, I am looking for a Methodist cemetery and an Anglican one. > > In Stanbridge, also Methodist and Anglican. > > In Philipsburg, Methodist and Anglican. Paula, I am So very jealous I would love to go and do some family research in the area. Unfortunately I can't help you on any of the locations but you might try Google or the web site from the area. Good Luck. The real reason that I am replying to your message is the ARMSTRONG name that you are researching. I am trying to find a connection to a family that lived in the same area by the last name of CARTY. My CARTY was Robert but there was a James CARTY that married a Margaret ARMSTRONG. James was killed by a tree falling on him on January 18, 1848. Margaret CARTY was enumerated in the 1851 census with her family next to a family with the name of ROSS. One of the ROSS children, Lucy Ann, married Robert CARTY in Missisiquoi, Canada in 1851. If any of this information rings a bell I sure would like to hear from you again. Again GOOD LUCK Joyce _jmceagle@aol.com_ (mailto:jmceagle@aol.com) **************Can love help you live longer? Find out now. Searching for parents, siblings and birth information on Edward E Dew (Dhu or any other variation). I have located one document from the Philipsburg Methodist Church (Druin records)...a baptismal record of his son George Edward Dew in 1874...it lists Edward as the father and Elizabeth Hollenbeck (Dau of Abraham and Susanna Hollenbeck) as the mother. They had several children however this is the only record I can find mentioning him, and by the 1881 Canada census Elizabeth is listed as widowed. Any information on this family would be greatly appreciated. Paula Price
Hello, I am traveling from Missouri, USA to Missisquoi County to do some family research and I was hoping you might be able to help me. Specifically I am looking for the names/locations of cemeteries. In St-Armand, I am looking for a Methodist cemetery and an Anglican one. In Stanbridge, also Methodist and Anglican. In Philipsburg, Methodist and Anglican. (Speaking of, I am having difficulty locating Philipsburg on a map...is it the same town as St-Armand?) The name of the Methodist cemetery in Frelighsburg. The families I am researching are Dew (Dhu), Hollenbeck, Daton, Bridge, Armstrong, Whitney and Wing. Thank you for any help you can give me. Paula Price

Hi List mates: Does anyone on this list have access to the 1841/42 Census for Missisquoi Co, Quebec??? I have looked at the LDS catalog and did not see it. I really need to see if there is a Joseph Kelly and a Martin Kelly listed. Joseph Kelly's wife, Sophia, is shown in the 1852 census as being a widow. Can't find a death record for Joseph so trying to get an idea when he died. Can't find any poof yet that Martin was his son. In 1841 Martin would have been 20 and hopefully listed. Frank, According to Diane's notes, which you may already have, John Fargo West b. 27 Nov 1831 in Sutton married on 6 Aug 1850 in Dunham to 1. Emily D. Larobee b. 23 Dec 1829 and 2. Lucy Jane McPherson b. Abt. 1830 but not much more information than that. Am I correct in saying that John Fargo West' parent's are Ichabod West and Lydia Sweet? I haven't done much research on the West family except that my 3GGrandmother Eunice West b. Nov 1789 is a sister of Ichabod West. I have this on Eunice. Eunice West b. abt 1789 d. Nov 27, 1828 m. I am in need of some research help in the Brome area. Specifically I am looking for information on John P. Webster who according to the Drouin Collection was married on 27 Feb 1845 to Ruth Leavitt, Durham (Methodist Church). He received a land grant in 1852 in Brome. He was buried (and probably died) in Manchester New Hampshire on 13 Sept 1870 at age 50 yrs (from cemetery record). Therefore he was born about 1820 probably in Quebec, maybe in New Hampshire. I am trying to find out who his parents were. I know his wife Ruth Leavitt Webster died in Massachusetts in 1893.. she had been born in Freilesburg and was 68 yrs old when she died (her death certificate). She is buried with John. At least two of their children Laura (who m. James D. Stoliker 16 Jan 1865 in Farnham.denomination Free Will Baptist) and Ella (who married after coming to NH) lived and died in Massachusetts. Another daughter Jane married Charles Smith, died in 1934 and is buried in Mystic.was a resident of Bedford. I am aware that a David Webster (b. 1769 - ?) was an early resident of the Brome area settling in Stanstead with wife Rebecca (she died 1836) and had a large family. I am interested in what information might exist for John P Webster (c. 1820-1870) and if there is a tie in with David Webster. What records are available for searching that might shed light on the ancestry of John P. Webster (1820-1870)? Is there anyone with knowledge of this family or the records of this area that could help with research? Thanks, Pam Stone Eagleson Kennebunk, Maine peagleson@roadrunner.com
