    1. [CAN-QC-MISSISQUOI] Viens/Duval in Dunham, QC
    2. Erin Bradshaw
    3. I am searching for more info on Joseph Viens b. about 1850 in the Dunham area. He married Maggie Duval in Haverhill, MA 1872. They are listed in the 1881 census Dunham, QC. Joseph lists his parents on marriage record as Joseph Cummings and Elizabeth. I think I may have found Joseph in the 1861 census in Dunham but parents are listed as Joseph and Mary Viens. Joseph also remarried to a Lucy Pudwaugh (Potvin?) in VT (not in the Catholic church) and had 2 children Daniel and Henry (baptised in Dunham as illegitamate). Joseph died in 1900 when these children were young and Lucy remarried to George Aubin in 1900. I cannot locate these children either. Don't know if the kept the Cummings name (which Joseph was using in QC in 1891 census) or took the Aubin name. Any leads or advice will be appreciated. Erin

    2. Carl Sheperd
    3. I am trying to read some photocopies of 1831 Canadian Census I made while on a rushed trip to Canada way back in 2003. I have a printout of "Categories in the 1831 Census" but my printout does not 'fit' with the actual census photocopies. I am hoping you can correct/add to my list. The "Categories listing that I have starts with (1) Name of parish, seigniory, township, ward or division of a town (2) Name of family head (3) Owns home (4) Trade or profession (5) Total number of family members and more..... The photocopy of the actual census record's columns are (1) Name of parish, seigniory, township, ward or division of a town - then there are four columns with numbers - then in column (6) Name of family head -- then two columns with numbers -- then in column (9) Trade or profession .... If I assign "Name of family head" as column (6), and "Trade or profession as column (9), then both documents agree from column (9) Trade or profession, on through column 43, where my listing of categories ends. The "Categories in the 1831 Census" listing goes through 43 columns, but some of the photocopies have at least 48 columns. I would appreciate any help you can give me in getting a complete and correct listing of the columns in the 1831 census. I have searched everywhere I know to find a blank copy of the 1831 Canadian Census but have not been successful. I have found the 1851 and many other census forms on ancestry.com and elsewhere, but I have had no luck with this particular census. Any help would be appreciated. --Carl Sheperd <carljamesheperd@yahoo.com>

    1. [CAN-QC-MISSISQUOI] Leavens (Leavius?) Carver and Martha (Page) Carver of Dunham pre 1842.
    2. Debbi Stewart
    3. This couple had children Samuel Carver and Martha Page Carver. Daughter Martha Page was born 18 May 1817. She died at Dunham 30 Jul 1842. She was baptized 29 Jul 1842 and buried 31 Jul 1842 by John Brownell, Wesleyan Minister as shown in Dunham Methodist church records. She was buried in the Episcopal burial grounds. The only other mention I have found of Leavens (Leavius?) was in the death record for Martha Page, relict of Leavins (Leavius?) Carver, who died at Cote St Paul 16 Mar 1868. Does anyone recognize this couple? Seeking anything further on their lives, ancestry. Could this possibly be the same Levens Carver, son of Rufus Carver & Priscilla Cummings of Montague, Mass. and Brandon, Rutland Co., Vermont? Thanks, Debbi

    1. [CAN-QC-MISSISQUOI] Esek Baker 1812 soldier
    2. >From Pat and if you can help her please email her dehaanp@msn.com From: Pat Dehaan Sent: Tuesday, December 08, 2009 6:30 PM Subject: Esek Baker Hello, My name is Patt DeHaan. I am a Daughter of National Society Daughters of 1812. We are researching veterans from the War of 1812 that are Buried here in Michigan. We are trying to locate all the soldiers from the War here in Michigan and document for the future their location and possibly mark them for service. Esek Baker we are told was a soldier during the War of 1812. He is buried here in Michigan and has just recently been found. But he has never had a head stone. We would love to help obtain that headstone he deserves. Family genealogy tells us that Esek was a soldier during the War of 1812. However, it does not tell us which side he served on. We have not been able to locate proof of service or how he served. If you could help us that would be great. I see his name on the website as a temperance signer around 1825. If you could tell us why he came to Canada also that would be great too. We assume that he had family there. So far there are no Baker's currently living in that part of Michigan now and no other family history of him in the area, but he was an early Michigan pioneer. Until a year ago when I finally found him in old cemetery records no one knew he was there. Here is what we know so far. Esek (Esick) (Isaac) Baker born 1779 in Rhode Island. Married Ruth and lived in MASS before coming to Canada. Had son Harvey born 1803 in MASS. We have found an Esek Baker in the 1810 census, but we don't know if this is the same family. In 1820 he is not listed. Family genealogy has them moving to Quebec, Canada around 1805. I know Esek and two sons Harvey and Jason and family came to Michigan around 1836. His daughter Huldah married here in Michigan around 1838. If you can help us with any other information or military service, which side for 1812, and the unit that would be fantastic. We would be so overjoyed. I have been looking for over two years. I can hardly wait for your response. Thanks. Please try my other email address at dehaanp@msn.com Patrice DeHaan

    1. [CAN-QC-MISSISQUOI] Searching late 1700s for Henry Bowker
    2. Probably born c. 1766/7, place & parents unknown. Known family member left Chester, VT, c. 1815 for St Armand, QC and then for Farnham, QC, c. 1827. Henry, d. 1829, is buried in Bowker plot in Fernwood Cemetery, Farnham, QC. So far I've seen no trace of Henry during his lifetime. Gravestone provides no details beyond dod and longevity. No spouse, children noted. Also seeking surname ELWYN (or ELWIN) in same era, for connection to Bowkers. Thank you.

    3. Hi- Sue   I don't think my Young's tie into your tree as they start about 1750 in Perthshire, Scotland with several George Young's all Plasterersby trade. They came to Montreal about 1815 and then to Waterloo Quebec with Alfred Alexander Young (1874-1929) the last to follow the trade. The Young family used names James, John, Alexander, Helen and Mary Ann but I have notes on other Youngs that I found while doing research, and will check to see if any fit your names.     Alan --- On Sun, 11/29/09, can-qc-missisquoi-request@rootsweb.com <can-qc-missisquoi-request@rootsweb.com> wrote: From: can-qc-missisquoi-request@rootsweb.com <can-qc-missisquoi-request@rootsweb.com> Subject: CAN-QC-MISSISQUOI Digest, Vol 4, Issue 71 To: can-qc-missisquoi@rootsweb.com Date: Sunday, November 29, 2009, 8:00 AM Today's Topics:    1. 2. PATRICIA YOUNG
    3. Hi- Sue The Young's in your tree I don't think are connected as my main line starts in Perthshire,Scotland about 1750 mainly George Young,s Plasterers coming to Montreal about 1815 and then to Waterloo,Quebec with Alfed Alexander Young (1874 - 1929) the last to follow the trade. Other family names are James, John, Alexander, Helen, and Mary Ann but I take notes on other young,s when seaching in case of a future tie, will check to see if I have any thing to help.   Alan --- On Sun, 11/29/09, can-qc-missisquoi-request@rootsweb.com <can-qc-missisquoi-request@rootsweb.com> wrote: From: can-qc-missisquoi-request@rootsweb.com <can-qc-missisquoi-request@rootsweb.com> Subject: CAN-QC-MISSISQUOI Digest, Vol 4, Issue 71 To: can-qc-missisquoi@rootsweb.com Date: Sunday, November 29, 2009, 8:00 AM Today's Topics:    1.
