    3. Does anyone know if the Poll Book Records mentioned below are available in any other way? I may have missed the response to this email. Regards, Kathryn Potter -----Original Message----- From: can-qc-missisquoi-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:can-qc-missisquoi-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Clint Clark Sent: April 25, 2007 8:24 PM To: can-qc-missisquoi@rootsweb.com Subject: [CAN-QC-MISSISQUOI] PollBook and Rebellion Records Does anyone on our list have access to the PollBook Records or the Rebellion Records for Missisquoi County? These public records are, unfortunately, being sold at HISTOQUEST for $25.00 a piece. http://www.histoquest.ca/databanks.htm#list I think selling "public records," especially at an extremely high and unjustifiable price, is outrageous. I am sure our ancestors already paid plenty of taxes to the municipality for the maintenance of these public records, a long time ago. If you do have access to these records, I need lookups for the following records: Clark, Warren - MISSISQUOI - year 1829 - type: POLLBOOK - record number 1026 Clark, Warren - MISSISQUOI - year 1834 - type: POLLBOOK - record number 1610 Clark, Warren - MISSISQUOI - year 1841 - type: POLLBOOK - record number 1351 Clark, Warren - MISSISQUOI - year (1834-1837) - type: REBELLION - record number 1105 Clark, William - MISSISQUOI - year 1834 - type: POLLBOOK - record number 1613 Thank you very much. 3. The subject digest along with the Legacy News makes it sound like a complete Canada wide census. According to what I read on the LAC site they state "The 1916 census for Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta is available only on microfilm. List of microfilm reel numbers for the 1916 census <http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/genealogy/022-911.008-e.html> ". The following URL lists what census are available. http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/genealogy/022-911.001-e.html , under the heading - What Census Are Available The following list identifies the main series of our census holdings and some of the scattered earlier returns It is an excellent reference to anyone who wants to borrow the microfilm reels. Keith.

My husband is a Civil War buff and is so excited to look through the photos. He knows just about everything there is to know regarding the civil war. Thanks again for this website. 3. Library and Archives Canada announces "Immigrants to Canada," an Online Database The following announcement was written by Library and Archives Canada: Library and Archives Canada (LAC) is pleased to announce the launch of an online database, Immigrants to Canada. The database contains Canadian immigration records held at LAC, many of which relate to immigrants from the British Isles arriving in Quebec and Ontario; also included are references to settlers in other provinces. Through this new database, researchers can access references to lists of immigrants and other types of records created before 1865, such as declarations of aliens and names of some Irish orphans. You are invited to visit the database at: www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/databases/immigrants-canada/index-e.html. The contributions of many LAC staff were instrumental in the success of this project, and their efforts are much appreciated.

They'll be available to Ancestry.ca subscribers in 2009, and the indexes will be free to the public on the FamilySearch Web site. The images will be free at <http://blog.familytreemagazine.com/insider/ct.ashx?id=8df86f3c-8cde-40b1-87 73-6e2ddcd2091a&url=http%3a%2f%2fwww.familysearch.org%2feng%2flibrary%2fFHC% 2fframeset_fhc.asp> FamilySearch Family History Centers. Canadian national censuses were taken every 10 years starting in 1871; earlier censuses cover various areas of Canada. Under the agreement, FamilySearch will provide Ancestry.ca with images and indexes for 1861, 1871, 1881 and 1916 censuses. Ancestry.ca will provide FamilySearch with indexes for the 1891 and 1901 censuses. This partnership should ease Canadian roots research a bit. Only the 1901, 1906 and 1911 censuses, as well as part of an 1851 census, are indexed by name. To find your ancestor in other censuses, you need to know his or her district and subdistrict-which could change between censuses. The Web site Automated Genealogy is coordinating a volunteer indexing project for the 1901, 1906 and 1911 censuses; <http://blog.familytreemagazine.com/insider/www.automatedgenealogy.com> search the growing database free. If you find an ancestor's name and district information, look for him listed in the <http://blog.familytreemagazine.com/insider/ct.ashx?id=8df86f3c-8cde-40b1-87 73-6e2ddcd2091a&url=http%3a%2f%2fwww.collectionscanada.gc.ca%2farchivianet%2 findex-e.html> free census images on the Library and Archives Canada Web site. 1. [CAN-QC-MISSISQUOI] Ancestry.ca and Familysearch Announce Agreement To Digitize and Index Existing Canadian Censuses
    2. Kathleen Grubb Bailey
    3. Ancestry.ca and Familysearch Announce Agreement To Digitize and Index Existing Canadian Censuses These partnership announcements just keep coming and coming. Of course, the end result is lots of new sources for online records, a boon for genealogists. The following announcement was written by FamilySearch and by The Generations Network, parent company of Ancestry.ca: Joint initiative provides online access to a comprehensive collection of Canadian censuses (Toronto, ON – November 11, 2008) Ancestry.ca, Canada’s leading online family history website, is pleased to announce a joint initiative with FamilySearch International, a nonprofit organization that maintains one of the world's largest repositories of genealogical resources. The joint initiative will allow the organizations to improve online access to a comprehensive collection of Canadian censuses. As part of the agreement, FamilySearch will digitize and index Canadian census records that Ancestry.ca has acquired. These digitized and indexed records will then be made available to Ancestry.ca members on the company’s website, and in time the indexes will also be available to the public at FamilySearch.org. The images will be free to qualified FamilySearch members and all FamilySearch family history centers. FamilySearch will deliver images and indexes to Ancestry.ca for censuses from 1861, 1871, 1881 and 1916 Censuses to launch online in 2009. In return, Ancestry.ca will provide images and indexes to FamilySearch for the 1851, 1891, 1901 and 1906 Censuses. Karen Peterson, Marketing Director, Ancestry.ca, comments: “Teaming with FamilySearch will enable Ancestry.ca to significantly reduce the time and costs involved in delivering these important historical records online for our members. Also, it will free up resources for Ancestry.ca to invest in other historical records our members want made available online.” Paul Nauta, Public Affairs Manager for FamilySearch, comments: “FamilySearch is committed to providing economical access to more historical records quicker. The Canadian Census project with Ancestry.ca is in alignment with that directive for Canadian records and will be well received by anyone with Canadian ancestry.” __________________________________________________________________ Looking for the perfect gift? 2. Dave Campbell
    3. While tracing my Neild family, of Bowdon,England , I found a marriage to a Podmore and on tracing that back found this IGI entry: Emmily Podmore Christened:04 JAN 1835 Bowdon,Cheshire,England Mother:Sarah Podmore Birth:Dunham, Missisquoi, Quebec Bowdon in Cheshire is in the district of Dunham/Dunham Massey. It was, and still is, a small town on the outskirts of Manchester. There is a poor quality 1841 census entry that appears to show a George and Emma Podmore, both age 5, living in Bowdon with a family called Royle. They are both down as being born in Cheshire. In the mid 19th century there seem to be only 2 Podmore families living in the area, George's and the one I am tracing. Does anyone have any information about who these people might be? I have not connected Emmily or Sarah to my family in any way, other than the location, but am following it up out of interest Thanks Dave

    3. Hi Nancy Good stuff!  Thanks for the tips about Ancestry.com! I've had my membership with Ancestry.com for a year now. I love it!  I have compiled two family trees there.  One is called Pringle/Laing Family Tree (for my Father's parents)  and the other is called The Baragar/Kline Family Tree (for my Mother's parents). Both include all the records, photos, and stories I have collected on my ancestors and living family members. My immediate family all have access to my family trees as well as two aunts, several related family historians and a few  genealogists who have/are helping me with my research. I really enjoy working with the Ancestry.com program which has enabled me to expand my family history hobby far more than I'd ever expected I'd be able to do otherwise. I live overseas and can not research local records in person. In the 1851 Census of Canada East, Canada, for Dunham there is a couple  transcribed as Charles and Louisa Labanc.  However, I believe these are Charles LeBarre and wife Louisa LeBarre - Niesnard. I need a kind soul to help confirming that and if so, help find their birth and death records.  They are listed as Catholics, both age 59 years making their birth year was about 1793.   Kind Regards Patti Molenaar The Netherlands
