I would like to find out about a big forest fire that raged down the area across the river from the Garden of the gulf museum back in about 1938 or 1939. It was like a wall of fire sweeping down the river. Did any of the huge trees grow back? Are there any pictures? Kay in Tennessee
I would like to know if there is any way to get obituaries of PEI on the computer? Is there a program showing them? I get The Island Register but I was looking for the whole obit. Kay in Tennessee
Dear Folks; There is a system sending out messages to many mailing lists with only a suspicious link in the text. It is highly recommended you just delete the message without clicking the link. It looks like a user's email address has been hijacked in this instance....and the everyone should be cautious in the future with messages showing only a link in the body of the message. Bye for now...............Murray * List Admin

Murray, I am subscribed to the list because I have been searching for info on a missing great aunt (Gertrude Hornsby Dalton) who disappeared many years ago. Her last known address was in Vancouver in 1920's. She would be dead now. I have had a little luck with info from some of the listers but I haven't found what happened to her. The reason for my writing tonight is to ask what you may think is a silly question. Perhaps, you have heard of the birth certificate issue with our new President-Elect, Obama. Has anyone there tried to search the birth indexes to see if Obama's mother could have given birth there? It is a possibility as she lived in Washington near there for several years and would have been familiar with the area. There is a statement from one of her friends that she visited her on Mercer Island when the baby was only 2-3 weeks old. This seems strange to me that a young teenage mother would travel that far (from Hawaii) that soon with a newborn baby. It seems more likely that she was returning to Hawaii after the birth. What do you think? Judy
Dear Folks: 1. It will become a Christmas tradition on the lists I administer, to allow subscribers to send a query on the ancestor or family they are researching. Some may call this practice a Roll Call. I call it "looking for information on our ancestors"....!!! * We subscribed to the list to hopefully find ANY reference to the family we are researching. Therefore it is logical that we post the known information on our ancestor and make a query to the list members on the information being looked for, to further our database along. * 2. Some of these mailing lists have been in operation for almost 10 years and recently they have died off for whatever reasons. Hopefully this Christmas tradition will help you break down your brick walls; thereby taking advantage of this excellent free research vehicle. * 3. I only ask that folks post comprehensive queries. Place the surname of your ancestor in the subject line and provide as much information as you can in your message. If you get a response please take any further exclusive discussions offlist. * Merry Christmas to everyone and all the best in 2009.
