    1. Re: [Ontario Irish] 1851 Census Index Liverpool?Irish born

    3. Thank you Jean! I've watched your Irish in Liverpool postings for quite a while with only mild interest from an Irish historical perspective but without any personal relevance as I knew my family emigrated to Canada directly from Carlow and that the family was in that area as early as 1750. I have never found any birth records for my direct line though but that's not unusual with Ireland! Well just recently, my grandmother's bible surfaced and in it she had copied information from her grandmother's bible. Imagine my surprise when I read that my direct ancestor, Robert Bowles, was recorded as born in Liverpool! Then I searched your site for the first time and found a number of Bowles and Boles (same thing) in Liverpool in 1851. Now, Robert would have been born about 1814 and was in Canada by 1830 so the 1851 Bowles families are only possibly directly related. I had thought the Irish emigration to Liverpool was later on. Does it make sense that a family of Protestant farmers would have moved from Ireland to Liverpool earlier than 1814 and then some of them moved on to Canada between then and 1830? I mean in terms of what we know about their emigration patterns and timings. Also, any help or hints for trying to find 1810's Liverpool protestant records either available online or by inter-library loan to Canada? I would prefer not to have to go the LDS route now that they have raised their rates to bring in a tape. I've just had too many fruitless fees paid in the past and based on those it's getting too expensive now. Any help or hints would be greatly appreciated!
