I am searching for information about my gr-grandfather, born in Alfred, Upper Canada, in 1823. His name was JOHN LYTLE (d. Wisconsin 1893). The family may have also used Lyttle and Little spellings. I have always been told I was of Scottish-Irish heritage. The family was Protestant. John Lytle left Canada about 1850-1852, give/take, for Wisconsin/US. There was one Canadian wife (below, ELEANOR LUNY LYTLE) and four additional US wives and a total of about 15 children. Places mentioned as possibly having family history may be PEMBROKE, WESTMEATH, RENFREW, PRESCOTT, HAWKSBURY. I am most interested in knowing who my gr-grandfather John Lytle’s PARENTS’ NAMES were for sure and also the NAMES OF BROTHERS/SISTERS. WHERE CAN I VERIFY THE 1823 BIRTHDATE IN ALFRED (which I believe to be correct)?? John’s parents MAY have been another John (Little) and perhaps wife Maria/Mariah, both born Ireland. WHERE BORN, IRELAND? BURIED WHERE—NEAR ALFRED?? WHAT CEMETERY? John’s grandparents MAY have been Thomas (Little) and Mary Holmes, both born Ireland, died in Alfred. WHERE BORN IN IRELAND, BURIED WHICH ALFRED CEMETERY? Are there records anywhere showing the relationship of my gr-grandfather JOHN LYTLE to a father/mother named JOHN LITTLE/MARIA(H) and a grandfather named THOMAS LITTLE/MARY HOLMES? WOULD MARRIAGE CERTIFICATES or CENSUS RECORDS be available for a period of time prior to 1823 in the Alfred area? John Lytle married a woman by the name of ELIZABETH (LUNY) around 1844 in PEMBROKE…….She died about 1846 after the birth of one of their two sons, JAMES LYTTLE and CHARLES LYTTLE (b. about 1845 and 1846). Her gravestone is in the Westmeath Union Cemetery. WOULD THEIR MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE IN PEMBROKE BE FINDABLE? In the early 1800’s, where in Canada would families of Scottish-Irish ancestry (born in Ireland) most likely have landed? FAMILY NAMES related to John Lytle: LYTLE, LYTTLE, LITTLE, HULL, BOSSHARD, FAUVER, SORENSON, BRYANT, KELLIS, PAULSON, BARLOW, ABEL, TURNER US STATES related to John Lytle: WISCONSIN, NORTH DAKOTA, SOUTH DAKOTA, MONTANA, not inclusive. I would be most appreciative of any help anyone can give me. This family is hard to trace in Canada. Jeanne in Montana
