Thank you so much for some very needed information. I must have misread someone's words re the census records. I only started poking around Ontario on Jan 24. I will be off to the libraries one day next week and will take your message with me. Again, thank you. In reply to Edith Smith who wrote: "Now I find that there were not yearly census' in Ontario, only one in 1871, so I am out of luck for census records and Ontario is too far to go to research in libraries." Census records for Ontario have been taken every ten years since 1851-52 (1861, 1871, 1881, ...). They are available on microfilm at major libraries, including FHS. There is no need to come to Ontario. The most recently released (in 2005) was the 1911 census. As is usual, the earliest ones are often the least complete. There is an index to the heads of household only of the 1871 census available online from the Library and Archives of Canada at http://www.collectionscanada.ca The 1881 census can be accessed through www.familysearch.org The 1901 census has been fully indexed and there are links to the digitial images at www.automatedgenealogy.com Ditto for the 1911 census, but indexing is still in process. In fact, anyone can volunteer to index a page; all that is asked is that you not claim the page unless you index it entirely as only the person who claims the page may make corrections. Anyone can submit corrections for consideration. If you only index a few lines, leave the page unclaimed so someone else can finish it. ==== CAN-ONTARIO-IRISH Mailing List ==== Check out the ONTARIO IRISH webpage at: http://www.connorsgenealogy.com/OntarioIrish/ ============================== Census images 1901, 1891, 1881 and 1871, plus so much more.
