I'm hoping to hear from someone with a McGEARY-BLACK marriage in their background. John McGEARY, born in Ireland, married Martha Black. His brother James McGEARY married Martha's sister, Ellen Black. Did they marry in Ireland? Did one or both couples immigrate to what is now Ontario, Canada? Is it possible that one or both of the brothers came to British North America as soldiers? Children of John McGEARY and Martha BLACK: James (1826-1890) m. Sarah RICHARDSON, buried Bond Head, Simcoe Co. John (m. Jane DILLON) Tom ("Killed in U.S. Civil War (no family)") Ellen (m. David RAMSAY) Martha (m. Robert ALLISON) Children of John McGEARY and Jane DILLON Martha m. Henry MITCHELL (possibly Tecumseth Twp., Simcoe County) Elizabeth ("married - went to U.S.A." - no name for spouse) Letitia m. John L. ARCHER (lived in Toronto in 1910) My connection is to Rachel McGEARY (1855-1923), a school teacher daughter of James McGEARY and Sarah RICHARDSON. Rachel married William Sutherland FRASER 30 Mar 1882 in Bond Head. Their children were born between 1883 and 1900 at Helmsdale Farm near Bradford, West Gwillimbury Twp., Simcoe County. With thanks for any help or suggestions, Frances
I am really interesed in Jean McCarthy's message to the list. I also am interested in the surname HAWTHORNE. My gr-gr-grandmother was Sarah Elizabeth Hawthorne, supposedly from County Down, who married William John Meharg from Rathfriland, County Down in about 1827/28. They had a family of 9 children and emigrated to Canada in about 1844. Early in teh 1840s William John/John William was working as a shipping clerk/bookkeeper at the port of Belfast. I have never been able to find out ANYTHING about these two families (MEHARG and HAWTHORNE) before their marriage date. According to the Canadian census Elizabeth, as she was called, was born abt 1810, and WJ Meharg we figure about 1800. Does anybody have any inkling of information about them? I would even like to know if anyone has knowledged of any other Mehargs/Hawthornes in the Rathfriland or Hillsborough area then - or today. Maybe if I can find some present Mehargs with old ties to that area we can figure something out. Much appreciated Carol (Meharg) Morrow Cloyne, Ontario, Canada
Church Photos on my web site at the link below. Alternatively, type: Jean McCarthy into the GOOGLE search engine for a direct link. I have added twenty two more photographs to the church photos pages on my web site. These have been kindly donated by Bill in Ontario who sent a photo of the Church of Ireland in Aghalee, also known as Soldierstown Church. His g-g-grandparents were married in this church in 1846. Bill would like to give credit to Mr. David Twigg, a parishioner who provided photos and a history of the church. This is a particularly beautiful picture taken in the snow. It looks like a lovely Christmas card. The other twenty one wonderful photographs were kindly donated by Russell in Idaho. Russell’s new photos are of: Church of Ireland St. Patrick Cathedral Armagh City, Galway Cathedral, St Brendan's Church Coolock Town Nr. Dublin, St. Colman's Cathedral Cobh County Cork, St. George in St. Mary's Convent Limerick, St. Manchans Church Near Tullymore, Convent of Mercy Charleville, Kylemore Abbey near Connamara Coast, Monastery near Clarinbridge County Galway, An old Spanish Church on the coast of Sligo, McAuley House Baggott Street Dublin. There are a dozen or so more photos on Russell’s pages that are too numerous to put in detail here. Russell’s explanation of the photographs is fascinating. Very many sincere thanks to Bill and Russell. There is now a complete list of the names of the churches whose photographs are on my web site. The link to this list is on the very first page of the Church photos page. To find Bill’s Church of Ireland Aghalee photo follow the links and it is on the very latest photos page four at the bottom. Russell’ s photos are on the next link from the same page. There are two pages of Russell’ s photos. Kindest Regards. Jean McCarthy nee Moore. Staffordshire, England. My own main names of interest: MOORE, (Ireland, Canada & Australia) BOWDEN, (Ireland, New Zealand, Tasmania & Australia) HAWTHORNE. (Ireland and Pennsylvania) In Co Down, Co Armagh & Co Antrim Ireland: McCALLISTER, McAULEY, FLINN, STRAIN, SPRATT, McCLENAGHAN & KENNEDY. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~jeanmccarthy36/

I've been researching the Bowles/Boles descendants in Canada from England and Ireland for about 5 years now. Perhaps three quarters of them have been traced back to Irish roots, mostly in Tipperary, Limerick, Carlow, Laois, Dublin pretty much right across southern Ireland and then a number from Sligo and Fermanagh. I have started posting my research onto my Bowles in Canada site and have started with the Ontario counties. After which I will go on to their roots in Ireland and then back to other parts of Canada. Its going to take me months to get everything posted. You will find it is pretty plain as first I am posting just my raw information, then I am going to add the references and then other supporting documents and images. As this is just my first release of my first site I would appreciate any comments/concerns/corrections/contributions. But not questions, not yet. As the references are not yet posted I can't take a lot of questions about sources if I am to get the rest posted. Any Bowles researchers can take the information as unconfirmed and hopefully as a guide to their own research and just be patient about the documentation. It will be coming. The Home page is at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~bowlesfamily/index.htm The Ontario page is at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~bowlesfamily/bowles_in_ontario.htm and my own Bowles from Laois/Carlow are at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~bowlesfamily/MyBowles.htm Their family moved from Quebec City to Fenelon Falls, Victoria county in the 1850's. Their origin in Ireland is documented at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~bowlesfamily/bowles_family_of_quebec_city.htm The Simcoe county, Ontario page will feature this family after they moved to Tiny twp., North Simcoe about 1878. I hope someone finds something to help them put their own jigsaw puzzle together! > > From: ConnorsGenealogy <nymets11@pacbell.net> > Date: 2005/05/13 Fri PM 04:15:58 CDT > To: CAN-ONTARIO-IRISH-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: [Ontario Irish] New surname registry > > I have added a new Ontario-Irish surname registry to our mailing list's > website. John McGEARY married Martha BLACK. John's brother James McGEARY married Martha's sister Ellen BLACK. The brothers were born in Ireland. Where and when they married the BLACK sisters is a mystery. It's unclear whether one or both of these couples actually emigrated to Ontario. Did any descendants of James McGEARY and Ellen BLACK settle in Simcoe County? I do know that descendants of John and Martha McGEARY lived in West Gwillimbury and Tecumseth townships in Simcoe County. The following information is taken from a very old set of family charts. Children of JOHN McGEARY and Martha BLACK: - James (m. Sarah RICHARDSON) - John (m. Jane DILLON) - Tom (died US Civil War/no issue) - Ellen (m. David RAMSAY) - Martha (m. Robert ALLISON). Children of James McGEARY 1826?-1890 and Sarah RICHARDSON 1824?-1913 (both buried Bond Head): - Ellen Mary b. 1850 (m. Frank D. McCARTHY) - Sarah Jane (m. Frank WOOD b. about 1847) - Martha Ann (m. John Daniel FRASER s/o Rev. W. FRASER & Jane GEDDIE) - Rachel 1855-1923 (m. W.S. FRASER 1850-1925) - James T. (m. Isabella McKAY) - Isabel - John Henry (m. Jessie McLAUGHLIN) - William (1868-1890) Children of John McGEARY and Jane DILLON: - Martha (m. Henry MITCHELL) - Elizabeth - Letitia (m. John ARCHER) Children of Martha McGEARY and Henry MITCHELL: - Frances Emily b. about 1880 (m. Joseph Henry HILL) I'm hoping that someone who reads this will recognize some of the names and be able to help me to fill in the blanks, as well as share research findings. With thanks and best wishes, Frances Bishop -- bishad@direct.ca
They were Protestant. Both families were members of St. John Anglican Church in Bervie, Bruce Co., Ontario. The Daggs may have come earlier that 1840-there is conflicting information. I also think they may have settled 1st in another part of Ontario and moved to Kincardine Twp., Bruce Co. later. William's gd. daughter, Jane Dagg, married Nathaniel Bradley's gd. son. John Bradley, in 1860. The couple lived in Kincardiner Twp. until at least 1871, before moving to Michigan. USA. Have you searched the website set up by Jann Callahan on the Dagg family in Canada? Pam s.
Do you kno if they were Protestant or Catholic? My Morgan family and Dagg family came from either Cork or Tipperary but earlier than your people. because their children were all born in March, Carlton Co., Ontario, Canada beginning in 1838. The Daggs in my family may have been at least in another township, because in the 1851 Census records I only find a few Daggs, and not much to tie them to Margaret Dagg. I am heartened to hear that there were Daggs in Tipperary. I had never heard of a parish, so that helps some. My people were all protestant. ----- Original Message ----- From: "pamscha" <pamscha@earthlink.net> To: <CAN-ONTARIO-IRISH-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, April 24, 2005 10:53 AM Subject: [Ontario Irish] Dagg, Bradley > > Hello-I'm new to the list. Hi I'm very keen to find relatives previously living in Ontario. They are the descendants of John Wall & Catherine Leahy. They moved from Cardiff S. Wales to Ontario in the late 1910's. They had connections with 'Dominion Foods' John & Catherine had 2-3 girls & 1 boy John Anthony I'd be very grateful for any info Many Thanks Elizabeth Parry
LORENTZ, MILLER, BENNER, ROECKEL, SWITZER, . . .are Palatine Irish ancestors being sought. Especially, descendants of Loyalist Captain George LAWRENCE, Butler's Rangers, Fort Niagara, and The War of 1812 are of interest. These Loyalist families brought Methodism both to The American Colonies and Upper CANADA. Camden colony connections are also of interest. Thank you for any information.
I'm not able to open attatchments that are being sent to me... its nothing to do with my 'protector' ...any sugestions please EAParry

Hello to All, Names I am researching: McCAFFREY, MEHARG, KELLY, HAVENS, VANNATTER I have John & Catherine McCAFFREYin Norfolk County, Ontario 1850s - 1880s. Both were born in Ireland (1851 Census) he about 1811, and she about 1826. Their son Dennis b. abt 1858 was my gr-grandfather; married Ida Ann KELLY. According to 1851 census, there was a son Edmond age 3. And according to John's will there were 4 other children probably born bet. 1848 and 1858: Margaret, Sarah Ellen, Gilbert, and Peter. When John died in 1874, Catherine was living with these four children at 16 Broad St, Port Dover, Norfolk Co while Dennis was with John on a 50-acre farm in Middleton Tp, Norfolk Co. By 1880 Sarah Ellen was in Biddulph Tp, Middlesex County by 1880; Margaret was in Simcoe, Norfolk County; Gilbert was with Dennis on the farm in Middleton Tp. I don't need any help with Dennis. My wish list: locate any descendants of those other children of John & Catherine McCaffrey. What was Catherine's maiden name? Where in Ireland did they come from, and when? Do these individuals sound familiar to anybody out there? Carol in Cloyne
