Hi Jan I have a copy of a self published book by E. McIntyre titled "The Forefathers and Descendants of The Family of David ROCHE (1853 -1926) And His Wife Mary Ann O'MEARA (1856 - 1937)" fourth edition 2003. It is very well done and certainly a treasure of information. It has a lot of photos and stories of people, and a photo of a unique family headstone in the Roman Catholic cemetery in Watford, Lambton Co. My primary interest would be finding the bmd records. I like to see the source document if possible. I have found some, but not all, Roche's on the census records. Some were spelled Roach from time to time. I have a copy of "The Hockey Book" written by my Grandfather's cousin Wilfred Victor "Bill" Roche in 1953. It has interviews with the old time players with a lot of humour. He was a sports writer for a Sarnia and Toronto newspaper and travelled with the teams. Thanks for your offer. I'd sure appreciate it if you would keep an eye out for his name in Sarnia. Thanks. Other than the sites you mentioned before - I haven't come across any others. I also use the Library and Archives sites. I did order WWI Military Records and found them really interesting. Most of the information I have is from personal contact through RootsWeb and Ancestry message boards, which has been very helpful for sharing info and finding new relatives. Please feel free to send any Lambton specific sites to me. I have our Duncan's in Bunyan cemetery but not in Woodland, London, ON. What kind of information does your list show for Bunyan burials? Does it have more info than Ontario Cemetery Finding Aid site? Thanks again Jan. ~ Lyn, White Rock, BC Roche - Ireland to Warwick Twp, Lambton County 1841. --------------original message-------- Date: Fri, Sep 16, 2005 From: Jan Fennell <jsfennell@shaw.ca> To: CAN-ONTARIO-IRISH-L@rootsweb.com Subject: RE: [Ontario Irish] Re: Catholic records in Lambton Co Hi Lyn, I am on the quest for the Harkness family who settled in Sarnia (then Lambton & Middlesex) area from Ireland. I do have the list of burials for both the Bunyan Cemetery (mainly Baptist) and Lakeview Cemetery that I purchased from the Lambton Gen. Society. If you need info from either of these sources let me know and I look them up for you. There are a few in the Woodland Cemetery in London. Do you have any info on anyone in that cemetery? That is part of the on-going saga. If you want I can keep my eye out for you but would have to provide me with more specifics. I am searching everything in the area anyway! Do you have any other useful web sites for this area??? Jan

I don't have any experience with Ontario Catholic Church records so for me, the best way would be to bring in the appropriate county bmd registers which are all available through the LDS at their libraries. You look up the appropriate microfilm #'s on the Ontario Archives site http://www.archives.gov.on.ca/english/interloan/v-contents.htm#births Then there is also a link on that page to get the appropriate LDS microfilm #. You can also search for the appropriate film number on the LDS web site but I find the Ontario Archives indexes easier to use. > > From: ACMBJC@aol.com > Date: 2005/09/12 Mon PM 03:54:48 CDT > To: CAN-ONTARIO-IRISH-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: [Ontario Irish] question abt. I read your posts with great interest, and print the recipes and share them with the relatives. We, here in British Columbia, all enjoy them. With 'free' apples soon to be in abundance here, the "Irish Apple Cake" will be a nice change from Apple Pies. Also appreciate your information on sites being updated, etc. Just wanted to stop by to say thanks. ~ Lyn, White Rock, BC., Canada Irish names: ROCHE & ROGERS, Ireland to Lambton County, Ontario.

With Fall fastly approaching this is a recipe that will be great when the weather gets cooler...thanks to George of the Heritage Newsletter. Pride of Erin Soup Ingredients: 1 1-pound cabbage, cored, quartered 2 tablespoons (1/4 stick) butter 1/2 cup chopped onion 1/2 cup grated peeled russet potato 1/2 teaspoon ground mace 2 tablespoons all purpose flour 2 1/2 cups milk 2 1/2 cups canned low-salt chicken broth 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley 2 tablespoons chopped fresh chives 2 tablespoons freshly grated Parmesan cheese Method: Place cabbage in large bowl. Pour enough boiling water over to cover. Let stand 5 minutes. Drain well. Pat dry with paper towels. Cut cabbage into thin shreds. Melt butter in heavy large saucepan over low heat. Add onion; sauté until tender but not brown, about 10 minutes. Add cabbage and potato, stir 5 minutes. Stir in mace. Add flour, stir 2 minutes. Gradually mix in milk and broth. Bring mixture to boil, stirring frequently. Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer until vegetables are tender, about 20 minutes. Cool slightly. Puree soup in batches in blender until smooth. Return soup to same saucepan. Season with salt and pepper. (Can be made 1 day ahead. Cover and chill.) Bring soup to simmer. Ladle into bowls. Sprinkle with parsley, chives and Parmesan and serve. Serves 6. -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA http://www.connorsgenealogy.com
