Hello All, Recently, Deb Crawford mentioned on this list that she was indexing a rare treasure of a book found in the archives of the museum - the Constable's Report, June 1916 to October 1928. The index is about to be printed, bound, catalogued and placed on our shelves, thus ending Deb's fun. The oohs and ahhs, giggles and gasps of shock heard while she was reading and indexing this book were entertaining.... to say the least. The book is now back in its niche in the basement where it will remain. While all of the book's entries are a matter of public record, we have no desire to shake family trees by transcribing the entire book. The entries range from arrest for theft, vandalism, bootlegging, cockfighting (descendants of Midland's upstanding and prominent founders take note) to the very sad and tragic. Some entries contain genealogical information you will not find elsewhere. Remember, Deb did tell you to expand your research horizons and look for the little known records. Since this covers a period when there are few publicly accessible records, it could be the breakthrough you need. So who is in it? Darn near everybody! There are few families in the Penetang/Midland and surrounding areas that are not mentioned. The total count of names exceeded 2,500. If you email Deb or I at genealogy@pencenmuseum.com we will tell you if your family is mentioned. If you want the entire entry, our usual fees apply for locating and transcribing the entry. We will let you know what they are when you email. You may want to pay us a visit instead - on Saturdays only, all winter, we are offering two free hours of research for first-time visitors. You can cover a lot of material in that amount of time! In the introduction to the index, Deb would like to include short bios of some of the official people she has met on these pages. Some we can identify, others we cannot, so we need your help. Take a look through the following list and if you see a name that is familiar, tell us what you know. Where we already have information on the person, we have marked it as completed. Please do not post full entries from websites - no census, Ancestry.ca BMDs etc. Short is the operative word! Pam .. can't add too much . just from Memory !!!!!!!! HOWARD GOVER , Coldwater, was an Insurance Agent. The Gover home still stands, immediately across the Street, beside the bridge, from the Coldwater Mill. On the same side, and across the river from the Dennison House ( Hotel). Assume that this is the party that you want. You will have to prove it. Always enjoy your reflections on History . Keep up the Good Works.
