About 1855 John Buyers and Jean McCready and at least three of their children William,John and James left Glenluce,Old Luce Parish,Wigtownshire,Scotland and settled in Essa Twp. They were all there in the 1861 Census: John Snr.and Jean with I assume three of their grandchildren William,Matthew and Frances. John Jnr.and his wife Mary McKerlie with their children James,Jane and Robert. William with his wife Charlotte Drurie. James with his wife Mary(Dillan?)They were probably the parents of the grandchildren William,Matthew and Frances. My interest in the above is that Mary McKerlie was the sister of my gt grandmother Agnes McKerlie and I am hoping to contact one of Mary's descendants. I found the following: National Archives for Scotland Old Luce Kirk Session records - "Glenluce 27th.May 1855 Compeared Mary McKerlie from Campbell's Croft and confessed that she had brought forth a child in uncleanness on the 23rd.April last.Being solemnly admonished and exhorted to be ingenuous in naming the father of her child,and interrogated,answered that John Byres,Joiner,late Kirkcowan,now in New York,is the father of it..She was afterwards rebuked for the sin of fornication,absolved from the scandal and restored to church privilages.Closed with prayer. Mary and her baby son James must have joined John Buyers Jnr. in Essa about 1855/56 because they had a daughter Jane born in Essa about 1856.They had at least another four children Robert,Ellen,Mary Anne and John Alex. Mary Anne Buyers married a Samuel Allan Connell in Essa in 1895 and they had a daughter Jessie W.Connell.Mary Anne died in Essa on the 12Feb1901 aged 33. John Alex Buyers married an Amanda Graham in Tossorontio,Simcoe South in 1895.They had at least three children Mary Anne,John Clarence and Ira Lorne.They were all living in Essa Twp in the 1911 Census.John's marriage record helpfully gave his parents as John Buyers and Mary McKerlie. John Buyers Jnr.and Mary McKerlie and most of their children and grandchildren seem to be buried in Alliston Union Cemetery.Jessie W.Connell is buried in Barrie Union Cemetery.
