According to the original baptismal register as found in LDS # 1305885, the earliest dated baptism service at Ste Anne's was September 10 1835 conducted by Rev Father E ????? de Tabeau. At that time, Rev Tabeau baptized 31 people, many of whom would appear to be children. The surnames were Berger, Broderick, Chevalier, Cayieux/Cadieux, Cote, Cooly, Desjardins, Farlin/Farling, Fortin, Frechette, Kempline, Lafreniere, Lavallee, Lee, Lereanger/Laranger, Leduc, Lacroix, Langevin, Martin, Mundy (two), Parisien, Rousseau, Roi, Recollet, Sorrell, Starkweather (two), Sylvestre, Trudeau and Vasseur. Some of these did include an approximate age but no birthplaces were given. Perhaps the most interesting aspect of these baptisms is the godparents/sponsors who were listed - another source of the earliest adults in our community. Gwen Patterson
