Good day listers. Some exciting news from our Genealogical Research Room at the Penetanguishene Centennial Museum & Archives. After several months of transcribing (and translating from Latin & French) Byng Inlet & Britt (including French River, Cape Croker and other places) parish transcripts from the microfilmed records - the following is for sale at the museum. Byng Inlet & Britt Death Index - this index is 80+ pages of death listings from the late 1800's to the early 1920's. Death index information is as extracted from the microfilm and can include - name of deceased (of course), date of death, date of burial, genealogical information in some cases (such as wife of, son of etc), cross referenced by maiden names if applicable, all information as written by the priest such as place of birth, cause of death, location of death etc. In addition to this information, I cross referenced with baptisms, marriage and death records from Penetanguishene/Lafontaine/Midland for those with links to this area. These genealogical notes are included in the Death Index. I think it's a valuable addition to any researcher whose journey will take them into these areas. For those with Drummond Island connections, you will see many familiar names in these records. Also available - Byng Inlet & Britt marriage index. This index includes, of course, names of the bride & groom and, when given - names of parents, previous spouses (in case of a widow or widower), some notations are made regarding places of birth - the dates of the marriage of course - place of wedding - and names of witnesses. All of the above are sorted alphabetically for easy reference. Furthermore, the indexes (indices?) contain the applicable page number in reference to the microfilm in case you would like to view the original microfilm copies. Two more books are in reference to the 1851 Census for Grey County Ontario (census taken January 1852) - one of the indexes contain, sorted alphabetically and by family grouping, those individuals listed as Indian, as having been born in U.S. and / or Penetanguishene. An interesting summary and snapshot of those families c 1852. The second index drawn from this census (the microfilm numbers are listed in the books) extracts those listed in the census as "coloured" - again, sorted alphabetically and in family groupings. If I do say so myself, I think these four books will be of value to the researcher. For information regarding pricing, kindly e mail genealogy@pencenmuseum.com Thanks for listening!
