Did you happen to know any of the Leigh clan? John F. Wright Barrie, Ontario John ... My Mother's Family Farm was on the corner of the 5th Concession and the Ridge Road .. West Side. She aligned with the Oro Church .. which was only a mile away. Had notions about the Guthrie United, but after a couple of visits, got the notion that we didn't fill their criteria :-) We could have gone to Guthrie, Oro Station , or Shanty Bay Schools, but chose Shanty Bay because we were able to ride the High School Bus, back & forth, ( at great personal cost to Mother .. :-) ) There, I was the lone Methodist in a sea of Anglicans !!!!!!!!! But, I stood out. I was the only kid who wore a tie to school .. see Wayne Cook's Site for S.S. # 1 SHANTY BAY, May of 1945. We were 2nd Owners from the Crown, on our Farm. Had been settled by Joseph Packard, purchasing it in September 1940. The house was built in 1916, but was state of the art, for its' time. No electriss, but it had indoor plumbing, plus hot and cold running water. We added hydro in time for Christmas of 1940 ..neighbours loved Christmas Tree Lights !!!!!!!! Yes, the LEIGHs were prevalent in Oro, and particularly HAWKESTONE. Norman and Orma Leigh were neighbours. Orma was our mail lady for several years. They had three boys, I recall, Barry being the middle child. Seem to recall that his older brother, who was closer to my age, died in recent times, while awaiting a heart transplant. His name eludes me at this time. If you need a " fill-in " about Oro or Shanty Bay, any time, try picking my brains .. Ain't much else in there, some will tell you :-) Paul Robins, Late of Medonte, Now of Wasaga Beach.
