THANKS WAYNE, for bringing back a zillion OLD MEMORIES !!!!!!!! MARY. REGARDLESS OF THE NAME, IT IS THE SAME Red Brick CHURCH that it was 67 years ago, when I first attended !!!!!!!! As I recall, Old Mr. Pearsall .. from around the corner, up the 6th Concession, used to come down early Sunday Morning, and start a fire in the little stove near the front door, so the Church would be warm, when we all arrived around 2:00 P.M. It was the second stop on a 4 Church Circuit for the Minister . Forest Home 11 A.M., Oro 2 P.M., Guthrie 4 P.M., and Shanty Bay 8 P.M. Any youngsters, at service, always tried to sit next to Mr. Pearsall, as he always came with a GOOD SUPPLY of Peppermint Candy in his deep pockets. He was the epitome of METHODISM, complete with the white, walrus moustache. My Mother played the music accompaniment, on the pump-pipe-organ. Maude EMMS , a near neighbour, and dear friend of my Mother's, had a Contralto Singing Voice, which filled the small church. We knew that God was listening, when Maude Emms was there !!!! And, I can offer tales about a string on Ministers who were in service there. Unfortunately, for ORO, the staunch old Methodists have all died off, and the Church only has perhaps one service a year, to pay homage to its' early patrons. BUT, it is still a burying ground. I have a question about this particular cemetery. I have reference to this cemetery being called "Red Brick" and you, and obviously the sign, list the name as Little Brick. Can anyone explain the 2 names for this cemetery? Hi Paul, After looking at a picture of the church I realized where the refernece to Reb Brick Church came from but thanks for your help:-) I am related to the EMMS family and would be interetsed to kno wif the Maude EMMS that you knew was the Maude married to Jospeh Hall EMMS? I have very little personal information about the family. I was very interested in seeing the photo of the memorial stone to James EMMS and Frances Mary GREENWAY located in the Little Brick cemetery. They are actually buried in Craighurst. Mary Paul and Ruth Robins <robins0379@rogers.com> wrote: THANKS WAYNE, for bringing back a zillion OLD MEMORIES !!!!!!!! MARY. I have very little personal information about the family. I was very interested in seeing the photo of the memorial stone to James EMMS and Frances Mary GREENWAY located in the Little Brick cemetery. They are actually buried in Craighurst. Mary Mary ... Maude Emms was petite, with fiery red hair. Her husband, Joseph was tall and dark haired. They were the type of neighbours that everybody wishes for !!!!!!! There were no living children. I understand that they had a son, but it was a very difficult birth, and the child was sacrificed to save the life of the Mother. In today's world, there would have been a C-Section. Joe pre-deceased Maude, by several years, dying of heart disease. My Mother was not superstitious, just CAREFUL !!!!!!! She firmly believed in the Old Axiom that the first person over your threshold, in the New Year should be male, tall, and dark haired. If such happened, it would be a VERY GOOD YEAR for the Household. The very worst thing that could happen would be, if a short, red-headed woman was the first person over your threshold, in the New Year. It was always Great Fun, watching Mother manoeuvre Joe to be the first over her threshold, on New Year's Day, when the Emms came to call, as they regularly did. Poor Old Maude was nearly bowled over, more than once. Been waiting, a long time, to retell this tale !!!!!!!! Our Family has it memorized, and take great glee in re-telling it !!!!!!!!! I am sure that Mother, Joe and Maude are retelling old tales, right now. Paul Robins
