Just an ADD-ON to the name CORBETT ... During the 1940's, and 50's, the brothers DIXIE and RUBE (Reuben ) Corbett operated a Pool Hall, and Smoke Shop on Dunlop Street, East ( then probably Elizabeth Street ) in proximity to the QUEEN'S HOTEL ( WHICH IS STILL THERE. ) They were very kind to the High School Students, most of them under the legal age of 16 ( to be in a Pool Hall ) and allowed them to play during the lunch hour. We kept the place packed, and standing room only. The cost of a game of snooker was an enormous FIFTEEN CENTS, whereas the Pool Hall next door , was a straight CENT A MINUTE ( 60 CENTS AN HOUR ) !!!!!!!! A lot of us learned the game there. Paul Robins Seem to recall that one of them lived on Sunnidale Road, in Barrie. -----Original Message----- From: can-ont-simcoe-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:can-ont-simcoe-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Chris N Sent: August-10-07 1:03 PM To: can-ont-simcoe@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [CAN-ONT-SIMCOE] Samuel Corbett Hi Heather, At the time of his death he was living off Ridge Rd in Oro on the 6th line lot 25/25 but he died in a chair at the doctors office in Barrie. The family was in town for the buriel of Samuel's grandson, Thomas Dalton Collins, but he took ill and went to the doctors, unfortunately, he never came back to them. There should have been a paper trail IMHO, as there was an inquest done regarding his death. Have not been able to find a death annoucenment or registration, my thought is the family had a double blow and just had to much grief to deal with putting another ad in the paper. The family had moved from Innisfil abt 1872-3 to Oro. Have no problems finding the rest of his family (sons and daughters) but Samuel and his wife, Margaret nee Reynolds are giving me the slip :) Regards, Chris N ----- Original Message ----- From: "Heather Bertram" <aaron@bmts.com> To: "'Chris N'" <crslvstd@csolve.net> Sent: Friday, August 10, 2007 12:03 PM Subject: RE: [CAN-ONT-SIMCOE] Samuel Corbett > Hi Chris > > Just wondering where in Simcoe Co Samuel Sr was "living", if it were > close to a county line, he may be registered in another county. > > Heather
