Hi Paul, I am pretty sure we compared notes a few years back and couldn't come up with a connection. I descend from two Robbins' brothers, Amariah & Abijah, through 3 grandparents. These Robbins are the ones who settled in south Simcoe - Adjala Tp - land granted for their service in the War of 1812. They were originally Irish - but came to Canada from New York State. Their name was usually spelled Robins in earlier records, but most eventually changed to Robbins. So I don't think the spelling was an indication of different branches or family status - just preference. I could send you some family outlines for your comparison if you're interested.
