Molly I have taken the liberty of forwarding your e-mail to a Brett descendant. She is a distant relative of mine and I know that there were several Home Children at Lavender. My grandparents had a boy who returned to England prior to WW I to enlist and I believe that he did not return to Canada afterwards. I have some pictures of him in his uniform and I believe he corresponded with my aunt who must have been near his age. Sorry that he is not yours as I have thought that there is probably someone out there who would appreciate these pictures. The Brett family may also.have pictures of your fellow. The Brett descendant is Thelma Marrin. Hope you have success. I have traced his entry to Canada 1st April 1912 following the murder of his mother in Rugby England in 1911. Hs step father George Loake was hanged for the crime 28 Dec 1911. I have also traced down a reference from the Barnardo's Homes Canadian magazine 'Ups and Downs', Toronto, May 1913. OUR FRIENDS DIRECTORY The addresses given below are those of some of the boys who came from England with the First and Second Parties of 1912. NAME of BOY EMPLOYER POSTAL ADDRESS [ALL ONTARIO] Newitt, William G John Brett Lavender I think I have traced Lavender to Nottawasaga Township & Mulmur Township, Simcoe County & Dufferin County. I appreciate William was not there until 1913, after the 1911 census, and from the little I know about home children I guess he would only have been there for a year. Still his was a sad story and I am trying to piece together what became of him. I have him enlisting in the CEF 1917. If anyone can tell me anything about Lavender in 1913 and John Brett in particular I would really appreciate it.
