    3. Hi Muriel I agree 100% with deleting part/most of the an email message before responding to the list. However, must question your advice regarding pdf files. These are generated by Adobe. Software to read them is available on line for free and consequently can be used by anyone. It is an excellent and now almost universal way of moving a lot of data in a hurry. Virtually all levels of government use them. I work for a consulting engineering firm and prepare technical documents. We have literally thousands of Clients and routinely email reports to them in pdf format. No one has ever complained and a few even thank us for the quick service. This week, a fellow researcher sent me a copy of a 34 page publication written by a relative almost 100 years ago. It is in pdf format and now I have my own copy of the original, all in one file. In fact if you want to join the Simcoe County Branch of OGS, the first thing that pops up on the website is an application form in pdf format. Because of the high cost of postage many of the OGS branches are encouraging their members to receive their news letters via email. Once again, pdf format! So please, don't be directing people away from one of the best tools out there. Just for the record, I have no monetary interest in Adobe. John F. Wright Barrie, Ontario PS Glad to hear you will be getting to spend some time down east. I am jealous. J

    3. Hello John -- I knew someone would question my statement. However, when a posting bounces, I have to click on the given URL, enter my password, then check whether I should Admit, Defer, {ones that are discarded} or send to myself. Should I get an email address like etain.shrdky@youknow.pdk.uk You can guess what I do --- DUMP THE CRITTER. I could let them go to the list and everyone might get his or her computer contaminated, but that is not the way I work. Thanks for the experienced information -- I am talking about SPAM items -- do not open unless you know the person. Possibly you do not know what I mean unless a list administrator. PDF files have their uses, as I know -- I use Adobe a great deal, but I am talking about those people who have nothing better to do than send us JUNK which could damage a computer. Thank heaven they come to me first -- but there might be a slip-up.
