Hi; Thanks for your reply. I have the information you mention; Tracy's middle name is definitely Lawrence. His oldest boy, who also passed away from the Spanish flue in 1918 was named Lawrence Walker. I believe the "G" in the 1911 census was a mistake on the part of the enumerator. Can you tell me where I would go to search adoption records? regards, Tracy walker ----- Original Message ----- From: "D.O. Here is the info source on Adoptions in Ontario: http://www.archives.gov.on.ca/english/geneal/genmajor.htm "Adoptions Until Ontario's Adoption Act (8 April 1921), guardianships (child custody without the right of inheritance) were granted through the Surrogate Court. While not listed in the Indexes, guardianship actions are recorded in the Registers, and later for some Counties, in separate Guardianship Books. For adoption files, you must contact the: Adoption Information Unit Ministry of Community and Social Services 2 Bloor Street West, 24th Floor Toronto, Ontario M7A 1E9 " If you can go to an LDS centre and view the film of the 1891 Census you could look for Tracy to see what surname is used and if there is a reference to his being adopted. By that you can pinpoint the time frame. You might also want to check this site for info on marriage registrations in Alberta. Having a copy of the marriage certificate or licence might also provide more information. http://www.afhs.ab.ca/registry/regab_marr.html ........... Cheers!
