I attended Barrie Collegiate Institute, in Barrie, Ontario, with Elwood Wynes, 1945-46. Seem to recall that he was a resident in Allendale, which is now part of Barrie. No relation ... just hopes that this helps. You may find that Norman George's name is on the Cenotaph in Barrie.
