John Herbert 1831-1917 Susan Jane 1835-1914, married Joseph Matthew Fox 1829-1901 s/oJames and Anne (Susan left Medonte c1871 and married twice more & d. Wisconsin, USA) Mary Caroline 1838-1912 married Joshua Levi Cole Elizabeth Jane 1843-1877 married George George Moon 1832-1913 Margaret 1845-1929 married John Carthew Moon and lived in South OrilliaGeorge 1848-1917 Daniel Walker 1841-1918 Edmund Joseph 1851-1930 In the book, it states that their first child was born in England and the rest in Medonte. I couldn't seem to find George and Jane on the 1861 census transcriptions. I thought maybe the last name had been mis-transcibed so I checked all the Medonte pages for first names and didn't find the family. I did, however, find a possible son, John, b. Canada West, age 28, married, living with the Moon family. His occupation is Labourer and he is listed as a non-family member. In the Medonte book, I read that John married Edith an Kent. There is an Edith Walker, married, age 29, b. England, George b. CW, age 6 and Isabella b. CW, age 2, living with the Hawke Family on the 1861 in Medonte. Says they are family members. There is also a Catherine Hatch, age 14, living with the Hawke family. I think Edith and children are likely the family of John who is with the Moon's. I believe this may be your George Walker on the 1871 index for Medonte. WALKER , GEORGE Sex: Male Age: 63 Birthplace: ENGLAND Religion: Church of England, Anglican Origin: ENGLISH Occupation: FARMER District: SIMCOE NORTH ( 042 ) Sub-district: Medonte ( I ) Division: 1 Page: 12 Microfilm reel: C-9963 Reference: RG31 — Statistics Canada Using the above dates for George and Jane's children, I think you will likely be able to find their marriages and deaths on Ancestry. Regards, Lynne Kemp. > Making my first enquiry into emigration from Somerset to Canada. George> WALKER was born 27 Nov 1803 at West Lydford. He married Jane ASHFORD on 20 > May 1830 at West Lydford. They had one son, John , baptised 8 Jan 1832.> > This family does not appear in any UK census that I can find. Yesterday I> discovered a GenForum message saying that this family emigrated to Canada in > 1832,> initially to Toronto, and then to Medonte Township, Simcoe County. I have > found the> death records for George and Jane on Ancestry.com, but I cannot find any> immigration or census records for them.> > Can anyone on the list suggest places/sites to look for immigration records,> census records for Simcoe Co, and BMD records for Simcoe Co please? I'm sure> this would really get me started to find this family and names of other> children. The informant for the deaths of George and Jane was a George> Walker - my guess is that he was their son, born in Canada. They had 8 > children in all, so lots of research to be done. _________________________________________________________________ Explore the seven wonders of the world http://search.msn.com/results.aspx?q=7+wonders+world&mkt=en-US&form=QBRE
