If your family name is Dubeau, we are extending an invitation to you, and everyone else, to attend our Settlers' Day Events on Saturday, September 29th. Each year, we chose a family whose first settler or descendants have made an impact on the history and development of our town. This year we are honouring the Dubeau Family. Events this year will include presentations honouring, not only the earliest ancestor who settled in Simcoe, but his descendants who were instrumental in shaping the history of our town and the museum. There will be displays, a reception, dedications and an antiques evaluator will be on the premises for the day. Please call ahead to reserve a consultation time. The Settlers' Day Dinner, to be held in the evening, will honour Joseph Dubeau, a prominent citizen of our town and a man who left his mark on the history of Simcoe County. We have changed the venue this year and will have a band for dancing in addition to a silent auction. It promises to be a gala event. For tickets, please call the museum at 705-549-2150. "Penetang-Midland Coach Lines Limited had its beginnings in the middle 1870's when Joseph Robert Dubeau first began operating a livery stable in Penetanguishene at 15 Robert Street. It was here that "livery, first class, single or doubled rigs were always ready for long or short drives." When needed, Joseph harnessed his horses to a carriage and set himself out for hire to run the daily stage eight mile return between Penetang andMidland. The stage coach to Barrie was a voyage that took a full day with a change of horses at Hillsdale. By 1892, with his business in high demand, Joseph began operating a stage coach between Penetang and Midland."
