Hi all WYNES / WINES and variations researchers I may be able to help you clarify this Simcoe County family. Only now have I had time to contribute to this discussion, which have been on Simcoe list periodically for past few weeks. A sampling of those messages follow, for reference. I have quite a bit of WINES / WYNES Simcoe County family data ... some 245 direct ancestors and descendants ... mostly as result of efforts of a good friend, the CREEMORE area WINES researcher and family historian mentioned in the messages. To clarify, the spelling WINES and WYNES are both correct, and are directly related to each other if you research back to common ancestor born about 1820. Some specifics on one WYNES family I've noticed in the recent queries ... James "Walter" WYNES (Jun 1889 - August 1934) married Agnes Ann GITTINS (Apr 1893 - April 1967) had a family of 3 children Norman George WYNES ... Jan 1924 - Oct 1944 ... died in Holland Olive "Eleanor" Burnetta WYNES (Dec 1926 - ?). Olive has a family of 1 child. James "Elwood" WYNES ... May 1930 - March 1988 ... died in Barrie. Elwood had a family of 4 children. Norman George WYNES (mentioned in several messages) is a 2nd cousin of the CREEMORE area WINES researcher mentioned. The Creemore WINES researcher does NOT use a computer or subscribe to this list ... however, sent me your questions and family connection, and I see if my data has the answer. Alternately I will forward your query to them. My Aunt, a sister of that WINES researcher, will be visiting at my house for July/August. The reference messages follow, below the line ... Cheers Cliff Carter St. Albert, Alberta, Canada =========================== Date: Tue, 10 Jul 2007 00:25:00 -0000 Author: PaulRobins816 Message Board Post: Norman George WYNES killed in Holland, 1944, had a brother ELWOOD WYNES. I attended Barrie Collegiate Institute, in Barrie, Ontario, with Elwood Wynes, 1945-46. Seem to recall that he was a resident in Allendale, which is now part of Barrie. No relation ... just hopes that this helps. You may find that Norman George's name is on the Cenotaph in Barrie. The Canadian Legion, in Barrie, or the Army-Navy-Air Force Club in Barrie may have further info on this Family. Good Luck. ------------------------------ Tue, 10 Jul 2007 16:15:52 -0000 Author: PaulRobins816 I was 13 when I started Barrie Collegiate in Sept 1945. Give it a 2 years spread, on either side. I would suggest between 1930 , and 1934. I remember him, as having his name come up in connection with the loss of a brother, killed in Holland. It was probably Remembrance Day 1945 or 46. Good Luck. Will be interested to find out whether this lead, leads to anything. Regards Sharon ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 10 Jul 2007 17:11:56 -0000 Author: jbmcg Thanks, and I will post here if I find anything further. Norman's name was indeed on the Barrie cenotaph, which was the subject of a Remembrance project by students at Eastview Secondary. They assembled pictures of him and his stone, plus the text from the newspaper notice and his unit's War Diary on the date he was killed. --------------------------------------
Hello to the Wines/Wynes World, The father of James 'Walter' Wynes is George Wynes and his brother James Wynes (married to Eliza Meher) is my great grandfather. James and Eliza's daughter, Ida Luella May Wynes is my grandmother. Another daughter, Mary Ethel Wynes, also came to Alberta. As a matter of fact, on Friday we are attending the funeral of Mary's oldest son. I have some information on the Wynes family from the Simcoe County area of Ontario but am very interested in learning more. Cliff Carter, I live about an hour away from you! Please contact me directly.
