Hi Listers, Does anyone know of Alexander Brownlee, a blacksmith, born 1828 in Greenlaw, Borders of Scotland, who migrated with his family in 1866 to Simcoe, Ontario and who died in 1912 in Barrie? Or of his wife Mary Brownlee nee Stoddart who was born in the Borders of Scotland in 1829 and who died in 1908 and is buried at St Thomas' Anglican Church? Or any of their descendants? Alexander's parents are my great great grandparents. Any information on this family would be much appreciated. TIA (Mr) Pen Brown, in wintry New Zealand [email protected]
The name BROWNLEE doesn't ring any bells, BUT . STODDART .. SHOWS UP IN Oro township .. Look in the Little Brick Church(United Church) in ORO ( Wayne cook's site ) . St. Thomas, Anglican is SHANTY BAY Ontario, ( also, I believe, on Wayne's site) Shanty Bay is about 4 miles distant from the Oro Church ( above ) . Barrie is perhaps 10 miles distant from Shanty Bay . Good Luck . I know the area well. Paul Robins Wintery in New Zealand ??
