    3. I am looking for any info about Peter McColl, br. @1850 Scotland. His family left Scotland aboard the ship "John McKenzie". Arriving in Quebec City they boarded the paddle steamer "Montreal". On June 26, 1857, a tragic fire broke out aboard the "Montreal" 253 people died. Peter's parents were Hugh and Ann McColl. Peter's parents and siblings, Donald, Sarah, Mary and Ann all died. Peter was the only member of his family to survive. The story that was told, was that he survived by holding on to a large tea chest. I think Peter was br. March 1850 Appin Scotland. After surviving the fire Peter, at nine years of age went to live with Edward Turner and Isabella Campbell Turner( both of Islay  ); Scotland), in Oro Twp., Simcoe County. I do not know what his connection was to them. He lived with them until he finished school in Coldwater. He appears on the 1961 Census of Oro but not in the 1971 Census.Family legend has it that he went to California but the family never heard from him again. He may have visited relatives in Chicago on his way west. Thanks for any leads. Heather
