Thank you, thank you! Heather. I'm so excited! It's taken me about thirty years to find my gt uncle in Canada (thanks to the internet) and then he upped and vanished again; and you've already shown me in this message that he lived a long and happy life in Orillia and Peterborough (which I'm immediately going to find on the net and look at :)). Wonderful news! It now also looks as though gt uncle Robert and Annie also had more children when they'd settled. And Muriel Bartlett is definitely his daughter: I found her husband's family on the Canadian censuses which was another reason why the Burgin name being so totally absent perplexed me. Thank you too for so kindly offering to look for further information in your library. I tried to access ancestry.ca but couldn't; being a member of ancestry.co.uk doesn't give me much Canadian information, though I can easily access American records; unless I am being totally incompetent, which is quite likely. :) In the end, I found Muriel by just putting her full name into google and up she came: 'Muriel Haskell Burgin' led me straight to Orillia when nothing else worked. Once I had the link with Orillia I found them all on two emigrant ships' passenger lists via ancestry.co.uk.
