Hi Heather: You're right--I should have elaborated more fully. I actually meant, since Robert was a boarder, that possibly he was working for extended periods of time in Orillia while the family was working the farm. In 1909, he was in Peterborough (according to a signature on a death registration for a family member), so possibly his type of work took him to various locations.
