Thank you very much Pat, Lynne and Heather for finding my rellies in Orillia! I'm now going to try to work out why Gt Aunt Annie Burgin, her father James Lowes and her daughter Muriel were living on a plot number, number 12, in Tay Township while her husband uncle Robert Burgin was in lodgings working in Orillia. :) I now have high hopes that I still have cousins in Ontario, perhaps still in Orillia! All the best, Marion in England
Good Morning: Currently there are 3 persons listed with land-line phones and the Burgin surname living in Orillia, Ontario and many more listed in other locations. See: www.canada411.com Cheers! Thank you too, Doreen! I have a problem, I think. Is it true that births records are not available for searches in Canada after 1912? If this is correct, I'll never know whether my cousin Aubrey who died in 1972 and his wife, had any children or not. Is there any way around this problem, if it's true? Thanks again. There are two things you can do about finding those children: 1) look up birth announcements in their local newspaper; and 2) go to your local LDS Family History Centre as they have the films, although nothing is available for births after 1911/12 at this time. Each year though Ontario will release another year to LDS. You might also look for the death announcement in the paper to see who survived Aubrey. I guess you know that Robert J. & Ann Burgin are buried in Lakeview Cemetery, Tay Township, Simcoe County. Perhaps you should write to them to see if there are other persons buried in the plot. Thank you again, Doreen. Indeed, thank you everyone for all your help. I reckon any rellies I might have in Orillia (if they stayed in the city) would be about my age, or a bit older, and I'm sixty five. Aubrey Burgin was born in 1913 and died in 1972, so I'd guess he would've married in the 1930s, way out of Canadian records access periods, sadly. Never mind though, I'm delighted to have found my grandfather's brother at all. When he was missing from the English 1911 census published two years early this year because of pressure on our government by family history fanatics, :) I wondered what on earth had happened to him and his family, and now I know. I doubt if the family was posh enough to have put their children's births in the local newspapers... but it is certainly worth a try. It's actually true that you can't search Canada birth records from 1909 or 1910 on, for privacy reasons...anyone born in 1910 is not yet 100 years old & therefore may still be alive. The only way around this is to search the 1911 census for any children born between 1909 & 1911, & then look up obituaries etc. that would mention children. Also death records, which are available up to 1934, name the deceased person's parents in later years, so you might get lucky & find the death record of a child of Aubrey's. You can also search for marriages of people with a father named Aubrey. But to find the birth record of a person born after 1910 in Canada, you need the permission of the person concerned or their next of kin. 2009/9/11 marion <[email protected]> > Thank you too, Doreen! > > I have a problem, I think.
