    1. [CAN-ONT-SIMCOE] Dixon and Breckon Family
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: kikoamoki Surnames: DIXON, BRECKON Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.canada.ontario.simcoe/2685/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am not related to this family but have the transcript of a letter written by John Dixon to R. Frankland in Whitby, North Yorkshire from 1832 in regards to their journey to Canada in 1832 onboard the "Columbus". From the remarks in the letter I have been able to determine a rough outline of the family. This John Dixon married Ann Breckon in Whitby on April 5, 1809. They had a son Breckon Dixon baptized in Whitby on July 27, 1821. There is also mention of a John, and Jane. From checking the IGI for additional children I came up with a Mary possibly in 1828 and a William (2 possibilities 1815 and 1824). My specific interest in this family is that in another letter to a George Dixon in Darlington, Yorkshire written shortly after the first letter he talks about going to see my great great great grandfather William Harrison in nearby Peel County to visit. It seems that John Dixon was a shoemaker and was looking for a place to settle. He describes William Harrison in the letter as "a distant relation of ours". It is this relationship that I am interested in. I can't find Breckon Dixon in the 1852 Canadian Census but there is a Breckon Dixon buried in the Lavendar Cemetery in Simcoe County. He dates are 1852-1927. So he could be a son of the Breckon Dixon who was born in 1821. Thank you Michael Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
