    3. Hi Fraser, I am not related, but have some notes on the Island family which may help in regards to Mary Island, wife of Alexander Arnold. In her death record, the names of her parents appear to read Jno Island, born Ireland, and Sarah Gilmore, born Ireland. The Ancestry.ca copy is light and a little hard to decipher. However, the notes that follow may help to confirm this for you. And the obituary of her brother, George B. Island, identifies that they came from Co. Sligo, Ireland. I believe, but have no solid proof that Mary's father, John Island born c1810, was a brother to Michael Island, born c1803 in Co. Sligo Ireland, died 1882 in Mono Township (husband of Eliza Leighton) and Margaret Island, born c1800 in Ireland, died 1863 in Mono Township (wife of George Leighton, brother of Eliza Leighton). Hope this may help. Registers of St. Mark's Church, Orangeville ... marriage of George B. Island. The marriage of Geo & Susannah appears in two different registers - one giving the names of parents, the other having their signatures. Combined information shows that ... George Island, age 22, of Innisfil Township, born Ireland, son of John & Sarah married February 27, 1865, in St. Mark's Church, Orangeville, by license, by Rev. Alexander Henderson to Susannah Craig, age 21, of Orangeville, born Ireland, dau. of Thomas & Mary Witnesses: George Island, Mono, and Caroline McClean, Orangeville (Register C) or Catharine McLean (Register D). Orangeville Sun, May 1 1890, page 2 - Personal Column Mr. F. Lennox, Barrie; Mrs. Arnold, Essa; and Mr. and Mrs. Alfred McGuire, Mr. and Mrs. W. Johnston, and Mr. W. Patterson, Toronto, attended the funeral of the late G. B. Island on Thursday last. Orangeville Sun, May 1, 1890 - The Late G. B. Island The End of an Honest and Useful Life The Remains Interred on Thursday. Last week it was our sad duty to record the terrible accident which happened to Mr. George B. Island at the C.P.R. station on Tuesday of last week. Readers of THE SUN are already familiar with the details of that tragic affair, and we will not weary them by reproducing the report. Mr. G. B. Island first saw the light of day in the county of Sligo, Ireland, in the year 1843. When he was seven years old his parents left the Emerald Isle and came to Canada, settling at Insfield, Nottawasaga. He remained there for some time, and at the age of twenty started business for himself, which he successfully conducted for seven years. About that time Orangeville was beginning to become a very lively place, and Mr. Island removed here. Previously to his coming to Orangeville, he married Miss Susan Craig, who with a daughter and two young sons survive him. He carried on an extensive blacksmith and carriage works establishment here for sixteen years. Four years ago he rented his business and accepted a lucrative situation with Patterson Bros. manufacturing works of Ingersoll, and it was while acting in this capacity that he accidently met his death. Mr. Island was a man who took an interest in public affairs. In politics he was a Reformer, a member of the Methodist church and a man of charitable disposition, and his generous aid, ever freely rendered to the unfortunate, his intense love of home and home ties, and his unvarying kindness and consideration for the welfare and happiness of those around him must ever remain a cherished recollection in the hearts of his friends. For several years he occupied a seat at the council board, and discharged his duties in an honest and upright manner. The funeral took place from his late residence to the Forest Lawn cemetery on Thursday afternoon and was attended by a large concourse of friends and relations; all the places of business were closed. The A.O.U.W. and Select Knight lodges, numbering over 150 men, preceded the hearse to the cemetery. Rev. C. E. McIntyre officiated at the grave and the brethern bade their departed comrade a last farewell. The pallbearers were - W. Judge, J. C. Brown, W. Johnston, T. MacAdam, J. Shaver and W. Henderson (Mono Mills). The floral offerings were many and beautiful. Chief of which was a pillow with the words "Our Commander" and a wreath and anchor from the A.O.U.W. THE SUN extends its heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved ones. "Till all around creation's pillars shake, And from their graves the sleeping dead awake That mighty voice that rends the parting skies May bid our waking dust to glory rise." Orangeville Sun, June 19, 1890, page 2, Local Intelligence Mrs. Lennox, a sister of the late G. B. Island, died at Barrie on Saturday last. Orangeville Sun, June 26, 1890, page 3 Died - Lennox - At Barrie, on the 15th instant, Margaret, wife of Mr. Thomas Lennox, aged 44 years and 11 months.
