    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: ABrewitt Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.canada.ontario.simcoe/2502.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Do you know if George Lowry had any siblings and if they lived in Ontario? Perhaps if you can locate their death registrations, it might list parents' names. Alternately, parents might have lived with the siblings in later life, if George's parents lived in Canada also, so you might try census records for any of George's known siblings. I'm sorry I can't be of more help. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 3. Son of JOHN LESLIE and MARGARET ANN ATTRIDGE is WILLIAM JOHNSTON LESLIE. I found his World War One draft registration which indicated that he went by the name "JOHNSTON LESLIE". It lists his parents as JOHN LESLIE and MAGGIE HILTS formerly LESLIE. (In it is described a 21 year-old who was 5' 5 1/2" tall, 32-in. chest, brown hair, brown eyes, med. complexion.) In the Canadian Virtual War Museum, I found that he died on March 7, 1919 and is buried in the HUY COMMUNAL CEMETERY of La Sarte, in the province of Liege, Belgium. I am researching the ATTRIDGE family. 3. Hi Susan, You would have to direct your question about specific pictures to our curator. For now, search the database on-line at www.pencenmuseum.com. The Penetanguishene Centennial Museum & Archives is located at 13 Burke Street in Penetang. Call 705-549-2150 today 12-4:30 or Monday to Saturday 9-4:30. If Paul Robbins is up this early (betcha he is!) he will reply to your question on the Robbins family. If he is still in bed at noon, let me know. He has been very generous to us over the years and has made us a gift of much of his research. Pam >

    2. Pam Tessier
    3. Hello Murray, I can't speak for all archives but our museum certainly does accept photos and the Research Centre in particular is always happy to receive them. We have made it a practice of sending the original photograph to archival storage and retaining a copy in the family files in the Centre. In this way it is preserved for all time. Occasionally, if it is a photo of an original settler, it will be copied and mounted for hanging on the walls - a wonderful way to store and share old photographs. We have accepted many scans received by e-mail (thank you, Paul!) and have had them printed and then placed in the family files. Since admission is charged at museums with archival facilities, you may want to bear in mind that it will probably cost you to see or copy the photos in the future - a small price to pay for storage and care over the years. We have remarkable collections of old photos, some of generations of families, that sit in our archives. Many were accepted in the days when record keeping was not as careful as it is today and there is no family name to identify them. Sadly, many times the donors is unable to give us a family name or identify the people in the pictures. Always be sure to ask if there are any pictures or photos when you come into a museum or archives where your family were known to have resided. Most, but not all, of our photographic collection can be searched on our website. For a small fee, good quality copies can be made of most photos. Almost all of the photographs in the book "This Was Yesterday" by Bayfield and Gerow are in our archives. Having them preserved and properly stored enabled us to publish an excellent reprint edition a few years ago. Anyone having photos of original settlers, Drummond Islanders, First Nations, Quebec French or British soldiers etc. please contact me off list. We would like to have a wall of family portraits for our 2008 Settlers' Day events. Loan or gift would be great! 1. [CAN-ONT-SIMCOE] George Lowry
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: barbdale_1 Surnames: Lowry, Widdis Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.canada.ontario.simcoe/2502/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am trying to find the parents and/or birth place in Ireland of George. He was born in Ireland 1820. He married Ann Widdis on December 29, 1842 at the home of her father William Widdis in Tecumseth, Simcoe County, Ann was born in County Cavan, and I have quite a bit of information on her family. The witnesses to George and Ann's marriage were William Lowry of West Gwillimbury and Thomas Willoughby. I have researched William's family with no luck in finding a relationship. William's death certificate says he was born in Lockport, New York. George Lowry's death record does not list his parents. I have census information for George and Ann from 1861-1901. George and Ann's children were reportedly born in Mulmur, Adjala and Tosorontio. They lived in Mulmur in 1861 and 1871, then were in Parry Sound in 1881 then back in Midland by 1891. George and Ann's children were: Mary Ann, married Michael Martineau Elizabeth, married David Morrison William, married Maria Bear Jane, married William Latimer and Thomas Anderson George, married Ruth Anna Anderson Susanna, married Joseph Beals and Peter Ganton Margaret Eleanor, married Thomas Irwin Thomas Richard, unmarried Phoebe Alena, married John Saxe and Richard Corbett I would like to hear from anyone who has any connections to this family, and I would also like to hear any suggestions of how to further search for George's parents. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. If you would like to reply to them, please click on the Message Board URL link above and respond on the board.
