Hi Pam: I have a connection (through marriage) to one of the Louis LaChapelle's. I will see what I have on the family and contact you at your personal e-mail. I did a little searching when I was trying to find the right LaChapelle family and I'll go back over what I did and see if I can assist you. Regards, Lynne Kemp. P.S. Have a busy day so probably won't get back to you right away. > Anyone knowing who the above people are or if you have a connection to > any Simcoe or York County Lachapelles, perhaps you can help solve this > problem. _________________________________________________________________ Invite your mail contacts to join your friends list with Windows Live Spaces. Hi, One of my e-mail queries was one by a lady asking for information on the Gravenhurst San for 1939. I had a relative who was a patient in this San starting in 1949. At the Archives of Ontario in Toronto I found the newsletter written by the patients at the San - was very interesting - I found information on my relative -for instance the fact that he sang for a farewell party and had a rich baritone voice - also that he worked at the canteen - played cribbage - also at one point ate second helpings, etc. I did not know too much about my relative so this was wonderful. Could sks who owns a copy of this book please check to see if there is any information on John Dennison (b.1847) and his wife Grace (b.1851). Thanks, Patti Wallace
Hi Kevin and list Your Geo Walker should be in the Upper Canada Petition and Land Books available on micrfilm from the Ontario and Canadian Archives In my Index for these same Land books I have a Geo Walker Soldier, Township not given Date 05 July 1832, Land Book P Page 229 Petition W55. These petitions often have revealing family stuff . Also since Hunter gives a lot and concession number in Medonte one can check the property/lot abstract for that particular lot to see just how the property changed hands .Andrew F Hunter is the Author of "A History of Simcoe County" The original work dates from 1910 or so and the book has been reprinted in 1998 by Mackinaw Productions, 65 Beatrice St West Oshawa Ontario L1G3M7 . Of course there is no guarantee this is your George but I would certainly follow these leads to prove or eliminate this soldier as your family. I searched the 1851 census and found no family fitting the description you have so well provided. I guess they all went fishing on enumeration day!! Cheers Rob McGinn
Hi List Making my first enquiry into emigration from Somerset to Canada. George WALKER was born 27 Nov 1803 at West Lydford. He married Jane ASHFORD on 20 May 1830 at West Lydford. They had one son, John , baptised 8 Jan 1832. This family does not appear in any UK census that I can find. Yesterday I discovered a GenForum message saying that this family emigrated to Canada in 1832, initially to Toronto, and then to Medonte Township, Simcoe County. I have found the death records for George and Jane on Ancestry.com, but I cannot find any immigration or census records for them. Can anyone on the list suggest places/sites to look for immigration records, census records for Simcoe Co, and BMD records for Simcoe Co please? I'm sure this would really get me started to find this family and names of other children. The informant for the deaths of George and Jane was a George Walker - my guess is that he was their son, born in Canada. They had 8 children in all, so lots of research to be done. Any advice welcomed. Kind regards Kevin Walker France

Hello List, Another name on the list of Drummond Islanders is ETIENNE LACHAPELLE. Sometime after the Migration in 1828/1829, he is said by A.C. Osborne to have moved to Holland Landing, probably around 1837. Research done in the last month, has revealed zip on Etienne Lachapelle. The Lachapelles in Simcoe (Midland, Creemore) and York (Georgina, Newmarket) appear to be different families but they have used the same first names creating a very confusing situation for researchers. Louis is by far the most popular! Francois Lachapelle & Josette Cloutier (found in Beaverton records) Esther Lachapelle & James Doyle (married 1837, second marriage for Esther, previously married to Weak, two Doyle children baptized in Penetang with sponsors from Georgina Township) Anyone knowing who the above people are or if you have a connection to any Simcoe or York County Lachapelles, perhaps you can help solve this problem. Please contact me off list. We can post the results of our collaboration to the list at a later date. It would be nice to know Etienne’s fate or, better yet, where he was in 1828! Pam
Hi Kevin The family of George Walker & Jane Ashford are included in the book, Medonte, A Township Remembered, compiled by Mary Garbutt and Published by the Township of Oro-Medonte, 2003. There are over 100 descendants listed and numerous pictures including one of George & Jane. John F. Hi Kevin, Could this be your George? Further west, in concession 7, on lot 1, George Walker, a native of England, settled in 1833. He had been a soldier before coming to Canada, and received this land for his services. His death occured on May 24, 1888.
