    3. These gatewayed messages are like a one-way street --- the writers have the advantage of seeing what is on the mail list, but should anyone wish to answer, it is not possible as I have tried. I have invited the ones who prefer gatewayed messages to become subscribers of the mail list. If anyone answers any of these messages, the "gateway person" is not able to see or read them. I do not even know the administrator of the "board" on the Simcoe list. Please keep these to a minimum -- this is a mail list. I do know that cemetery as my Aunt, Uncle and Cousin are buried there. It's on the south half of lot 17 con 6 Tecumseth Township. Or if your driving, west of highway 27 on the 6th line which is one mile south of the village of Bond Head. Do you live near there? I have a transcription book for that cemetery up to 1994 and it doesn't list a Holmes buried there. Which means it may have been overlooked or he has no headstone to transcribe? Or the research for the 1994 book had an earlier cut off date? I'm going to try and contact someone about that cemetery as it's a long drive from where I am. That other Kent County Cemetery would be over a couple hundred miles from Beeton, so probably a coincidence that the names are exactly the same? John Herbert 1831-1917 Susan Jane 1835-1914, married Joseph Matthew Fox 1829-1901 s/oJames and Anne (Susan left Medonte c1871 and married twice more & d. I couldn't seem to find George and Jane on the 1861 census transcriptions. I thought maybe the last name had been mis-transcibed so I checked all the Medonte pages for first names and didn't find the family. I did, however, find a possible son, John, b. Canada West, age 28, married, living with the Moon family. His occupation is Labourer and he is listed as a non-family member. In the Medonte book, I read that John married Edith an Kent. There is an Edith Walker, married, age 29, b. England, George b. CW, age 6 and Isabella b. CW, age 2, living with the Hawke Family on the 1861 in Medonte. Says they are family members. There is also a Catherine Hatch, age 14, living with the Hawke family. I think Edith and children are likely the family of John who is with the Moon's. I believe this may be your George Walker on the 1871 index for Medonte. 3. Hi Rob Thanks for the reprint details. You've probably seen my reply to Dave Milsom by now. I'm certain we all have the same George WALKER, as we all have the same wife and first child. I'm keen to learn where or how a birth date of 21 Dec 1801 arose. Like you say, it may have been stated in Land or Military documents. It varies from the copies of the West Lydford parish records (the parish George was born, baptised, and married in) I have. Happy to share them as jpeg or pdf files with any other researcher. 2. Kevin Walker
    3. Hi Patricia Thanks for the link. I notice that we start from a different George Walker, perhaps. Yours is born 21 Dec 1801. Mine was born 27 Nov 1803, baptised 18 Dec 1803, son of John Walker and Elizabeth (Betty) Cooling. Do you recall the parents of your George? Intrigued also to see Herbert used with son John's name. He was baptised plain John Walker, and yet the sites I've visited today refer to John Herbert Walker, or Herbert John Walker in your case. I never knew his date of birth, as it wasn't recorded in the West Lydford parish register of baptisms. I'm missing that inside knowledge you share with others who have researched this family. I'm really pleased with the response I've had today from this list. One day, and I'm overwhelmed with data. My real quest is to find George's cousin, Charles, my G2 grandfather. He was a Royal Marine, and retired in 1854; at which point he and wife Elizabeth (COLE) had 4 children; One died young. This family then vanished from the UK census history, and I'm sure he must have emigrated. He is my biggest brick wall, but today's events have told me to start looking in places like Canada and the USA. Charles must have visit the USA a number of times as an RM - the ships he served on certainly spent time in North America and the West Indies.
