Hi Colleen, Yes please, if you could I'd appreciate that very much. She's actually buried at Ivy, Ontario. She's my gr.gr. grandmother. I've seen the stone and it is very old and hard to read. Thank you also for your time and help with this. Hi Nancy, I found it on Ancestry.ca; I can send you the actual image of the death record separately. The informant was the undertaker for Thornton, so I assume that's where she was buried. Hi Nancy: I see that Bertha married Harry J. Meggers. They are on the 1910 and 1920 census in Calamet. By the 1930 census, Harry J. is in Green Bay, Wisconsin and is listed as a boarder and is widowed. Have you tried Bertha's death record for between 1920 and 1930 to see if it gives more details about her birth location, date, etc.? Regards, Lynne. > It's a name I've queried about on this list before, Bertha Broley (parents ? > Campbell & Mary Rebecca Broley) b. around August 1890 in Simcoe Cty. Hi Lynne, Mary Rebecca is in the 1881 census with surname Braley with her parents James & Mary in Essa twp. Mother Mary died in 1887 in Ivy, ON and father James & most of the younger children immigrated to Michigan, then they spread out after that. I've tracked down descendants from every line except Mary Rebecca's. Hi Lynne, This is my Bertha, but I've had no luck in finding her marriage or death info. It was her mother's 2nd marriage in the US and those census records that gave me the Campbell name, and/or info about an earilier marriage but I can't find her birth in Ontario or mother's first marriage. I even have her mother's obit, but no extra info. Frustrating. Hi Nancy: I tried to find Bertha Campbell on the 1891 Simcoe census but didn't have any luck. Did they move to Wisconsin right after her birth? I thought I would see if I could find a marriage for ? Campbell and Mary Rebecca Broley but didn't find that either. Do you have the names of her (Mary Rebecca's) parents? I can't seem to find Mary Rebecca (b. abt. 1867) on the 1881 census either. A great thank you to the kind people who have given me some answers to my many queries. I now have avenues to begin to travel. Many, many thanks! tish
Nancy: Mary Broley, daughter of Robert & Jane Broley, from the 1881 census in Essa Twp., Simcoe Co. (that I sent earlier), married William Millar in Allandale, Innisfil Twp., Simcoe Co., on August 28, 1883. Her name was spelled Brolley in the marriage record, & she was 24, making her born about 1859. Are you sure Bertha's name was Campbell? Hi Nancy, Found this on the 1881 census; this is the most likeliest candidate for Mary Rebecca Broley, as she's in Simcoe Co. (Essa Twp.). There was only one other in an acceptable age-range, but she lived miles away in another county. Hi Nancy, There was an Agnes Bertha Campbell, daughter of Charles E. & Sarah Ann (Harrison) Campbell, born in Nottawasaga Twp., Simcoe Co. on November 10, 1890. Charles was a "buyer", & they lived in Collingwood. Also a Bertha Victoria Campbell, daughter of John & Mary Jane (Law) Campbell, born in Tay Twp., Simcoe Co. on February 8, 1886. But those are the only Bertha Campbells registered as born in Simcoe Co. Are you sure that Bertha's parents were married? Did she have any Campbell siblings? That may help to pin her down, if I could find their births. I'm afraid I can only answer in respect of Toronto directories. The Toronto Public Library has quite a few of the 19th century registers online. Some of them cover more of Ontario than just "the big city". These do cover residential addresses. Recently www.ontarioroots.com has put up a searchable website for Caverhill's 1859 directory of Toronto. /cheers Pat Jeffs -----Original Message----- From: can-ont-simcoe-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:can-ont-simcoe-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Tish Sent: 17 August 2007 22:51 To: CAN-ONT-SIMCOE-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [CAN-ONT-SIMCOE] Still another question There are quite a few sites with newspapers from long ago - are there any sites with city or town directories from years ago on them? If so, would they only be for businesses, or would they be for individuals too? Again - thank you very much! I gleaned this information from records attached to his children. >From the 1861 census for Innisfill I have discoverd that his wife RACHEL was a widow, aged 32. With her are children William, born about 1850. Richard, born about 1852. Martha, born about 1854 and Margaret born October 1859. I am seeking any information about Robert who would have died between 1859 and 1861. I am trying to find some information for William as well. I can't find any concrete information on birth, marriage or death. Rachel remarried to William Hall in 1871. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Hi Nancy, I'm a little confused; is Bertha Broley the daughter of a Mr. Campbell & Mary Rebecca Broley? In that case, wouldn't she be Bertha Campbell? Who was Mary Rebecca's second husband, & what was her maiden name? I searched Ancestry but can't find any Bertha Broley in the 1900 US census either. All I find is a Bertha Broley (married name) born 1880 in RUSSIA, on the 1910 US census. There definitely were Broleys in Simcoe Co., even a Rebecca Broley having children, but no Bertha. Thank you very much "Family Tracer". No I did not have that picture, but I do have the Obituary for Jane E. Luck, which has been posted on Wayne's site. This couple went into the bush, and homesteaded, They had 16 children, all of whom grew to adulthood, except the first one mentioned on the tombstone. She drowned. Georgiana
